CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: Historian and baseball fan Ken Burns may be able to produce a sequel to his Civil War epic at this year's World Series.
As Jesse Gary of our affiliate KRON explains, it's a battle between North and South.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

JESSE GARY, KRON CORRESPONDENT (voice-over): It's one state, but two separate worlds, and the differences play out on the field and off. Pat Bell's (ph) crowd generates excitement with rally rags. In Anaheim, they have a rally monkey, a primate that probably should be in a cage. And fans down there love this.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: It's just kind of hard to relate to them.

GARY: The people definitely see themselves as different from each other. In Norcal, locals love the beauty, art, culture. But in Socal...

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: The type of people down there, it's just, to me, it's just really fake, insincere. It reminds me of somewhat a lesser of a New York City.

GARY: Look out a window down there and you'll see New York style dirt airborne. It's called smog, manmade and much more unhealthy compared to the fog that we're used to. Move closer to the Southland beaches and you'll see more of their attitude -- sunny warm weather and everyone half dressed with a cocky strut.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: People here are so much cooler.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: All the smart people are here.

GARY: Uh, like whatever. Anyone with half a brain knows even with a limo you can't get anywhere in the Southland.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: You spend all your time on the freeways down in southern California, mostly.

GARY (on camera): You can't get anywhere?

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: You can't get anywhere. No. They don't have good public transportation.

GARY (voice-over): One form of our public transportation is world famous. One region relies on movies to create their magic. The other relies on word of mouth.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I'm glad they're two different states, that's all I have to say.

GARY: Technically, we're not, but starting Saturday, we may as well be, since Giants fans are showing no mercy.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I want the Giants. I want the Giants to win four games in a row, sweep them, you know? We got a sweep coming. We got swept last time by the As. So, another team with an A on their cap needs to get swept by the Giants.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

COSTELLO: Logical.

That report from Jesse Gary with our San Francisco affiliate KRON.
