CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: Finally on DAYBREAK, controversial rapper Eminem is a hot topic at Detroit's Channel 955 "Mojo In the Morning."
Spike, Sarah, Chad and Eric are all on the line with us for today's Talk of CNN.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Hey, guys, how you doing, Carol?

COSTELLO: I'm doing great. And there's a tell all book that's coming out about the life of Eminem and you guys were talking about it and he actually phoned you?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Yes, let me tell you the whole story. A lady by the name of J.R. Watkins, who is Eminem and Kim Mathers', Eminem's ex-wife's nanny, she's actually related to Kim, she was in studio talking about her book, called "Cleaning Out My Closet," saying some really bad things about Kim being a drug addict, saying stuff, you know, about Eminem.

And then Kim actually called. Can I play you a couple clips?

COSTELLO: Sure, go ahead.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: All right, here you go. This is Kim Mathers, Eminem's ex-wife, calling up to try to defend herself.

(BEGIN AUDIO CLIP)

KIM MATHERS: The fact of the matter of her writing this book is she's mad because she tried to get with Marshal. Marshal didn't want to see her in that way. And because Marshal cut off ties with her, she's pissed. She left her husband for him.

(END AUDIO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: OK, that was Kim Mathers. That is Eminem's ex-wife, who rarely ever talks to the media, especially because of their, you know, much publicized divorce.

COSTELLO: Yes?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: And then the big one happened, Carol.

COSTELLO: Unbelievable.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: The guy who doesn't talk, the real slim shady, Eminem called his hometown radio station, Channel 955 in Detroit.

(BEGIN AUDIO CLIP)

EMINEM: All this personal (WORD OMITTED) that goes on in my life that people seem to want to think they know about, I tell it in my music. And I don't like in my music. I ain't lied once in my music. You gotta understand how it is for me to reach this level of fame and this level of stardom and try to imagine what it could to somebody's head when people that you think are your friends and swear to god when they're up in your face telling you that they care about you and that they're your friends and they would never do anything to hurt you and then they do, you gotta understand like what it makes you go through mentally.

(END AUDIO CLIP)

COSTELLO: Wow.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: And, Carol, I've got to say, because of all the lawsuits and stuff, Eminem never speaks about his ex-wife. This is the first time not only that he's ever addressed the situation and their relationship, but he actually was calling to defend her.

COSTELLO: Well, let me ask you this. What in the book is so upsetting?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: The things that upset him the most were the references to Kim being a drug addict, also the fact that this woman who wrote the book, Jera Watkins (ph), says that Kim would go into bars while she was married to Eminem and leave with like three, four guys at a time. And then Kim turned it around and said, no, that's not the case, this woman who was our, you know, child caretaker and also my cousin, would do that.

COSTELLO: Got you.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: The greatest part was...

COSTELLO: Well, it sounds like quite the controversy and thank you for sharing that exclusive interview with Eminem. We appreciate it.

Spike, Sarah, Chad and Eric, thank you from...

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Channel 955.

COSTELLO: Thank you very much.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Detroit. Turn us on!

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Yes.

COSTELLO: We will. Bye-bye.
