WOLF BLITZER, CNN ANCHOR: One woman was killed and another woman was wounded in that shooting in Montgomery, Alabama. Joining us is Debbie Weathers. She heard the shooting at the liquor store and was the first person to reach the victims.
Debbie, thanks for joining us. Talk to us a little bit about that night, what you saw and heard.

DEBBIE WEATHERS, SHOOTING WITNESS: A friend and I were sitting in my store, Brewsters. We heard the first shot, and we thought it was a car accident. I thought someone had backed into the columns of the building. So we got up to go to the door to check on whoever hit the building, and the second gunshot went off. We turned and ran into the back of the store and we locked ourselves into the rest room. We stayed there around maybe two minutes, and we came out and the police were already here. They were across the street at Taco Bell, and when we looked out, we saw the police, we went out the door. The ladies next door to the -- to my store at the ABC Store had been shot. They were both lying on the pavement.

And the policemen -- Kelly was talking to the police officer. I couldn't really hear what she was saying, but the policeman said go back inside, so we went in and the police came and interviewed us, and that was pretty much all that we saw that night.

BLITZER: Did you see any of the suspects? Did you see anyone who may have committed this murder and this shooting?

WEATHERS: I didn't see anybody, but my friend turned as we were running into the bathroom, my friend turned and saw a young black male run past the door. She thought he was about 5'8" or 5'9".

BLITZER: And your friend believes that this was John Lee Malvo, is that right?

WEATHERS: I believe that's -- I mean, she doesn't know who he was at the time, but that's what I assume she thought.

BLITZER: Is this a bad neighborhood where this liquor store is located? Are you used to having these kinds of shootings or robberies there?

WEATHERS: No, no, it's not at all. It's a business district. There's some -- it's an upper-scale neighborhood right down the street. It's really not a bad crime area.

BLITZER: Did you get a sense that there was an actual robbery under way there, or there was just a shooting for no apparent motive?

WEATHERS: As far as I know, nothing was taken. So I don't know what they left -- I don't know if they left, because of the police across the street, and they just didn't get a chance to rob the store or if they were just there to kill somebody. I don't know.

BLITZER: I know you've been in touch with the woman who survived. How's she doing? I believe her name is Kelly Adams, is that right?

WEATHERS: Kelly Adams, and she's doing well for what she's been through. She came into the store after she got out of the hospital. She came to tell me that she appreciated me coming out and checking on her, and it was comforting to hear a voice that she knew, and she hugged me, and then she left with her husband.

BLITZER: If you see her again, give her our best as well.

WEATHERS: I will.

BLITZER: Debbie, thanks for spending some time with us. Good luck to you and all your friends down there in Montgomery, Alabama.
