ANDERSON COOPER, CNN ANCHOR: The Associated Press is reporting that two professors were shot this morning at the University of Arizona school of nursing, the college of nursing. The reports are very early at this point. This has just occurred. Earlier, the Associated Press said the police were reporting -- quote, unquote -- "a major incident." Apparently, at the time, they said the shooter was still on the loose. We have a report from our affiliate KGUN that we're going to roll, and then we'll come right back.

UNIDENTIFIED REPORTER: Tucson Police and university police have just confirm that there was a shooting this morning just before 9:00. We do have three people confirmed dead, two victims and one self- inflicted gunshot wound, the gunman. Again, three people confirmed dead, including the gunman. We have unconfirmed reports that the shooter was a student who walked into a classroom this morning at the U of A college of nursing and shot two professors. Again, that is what we are hearing from people who were inside the building. That has not yet been confirmed.

The important thing we want to emphasize is we believe the shooter, the only shooter in this case, is dead. Tucson Police and U of A police are still clearing the building, trying to make sure this is a secure environment. People in the school of nursing are still inside that building in a very secured environment while police do a thorough search, to make sure there are no other elements of dangers, no one else is in danger.

Again, they are advising people, please, to avoid this area of Speedway and Campbell. If you went through it this morning, you probably noticed the barricades, you couldn't even get through part of this intersection. It's going to remain this way for a long time. We're live here on the scene, and we'll bring you continuing developments as soon as we know.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

COOPER: Obviously, the information is just coming in. Still a lot to find out. What we do know, three people confirmed dead. It is believed, unconfirmed, that two of those people are professors at the college of nursing, also believed that one of the dead was the shooter. KGUN is reporting it may have been a student.
