CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: We're having some fun now. The Anaheim Angels win the World Series and Emmitt Smith surpasses an NFL legend.
Joining us to talk about a couple of huge stories in sports is Chris Cotter of 790 The Zone here in Atlanta.
Shall we start with the World Series?
CHRIS COTTER, 790 THE ZONE: With the rally monkeys, and how. I mean Anaheim, they were going bananas last night at this game.
COSTELLO: Good analogy.
COTTER: Yes, (UNINTELLIGIBLE) on that.
COSTELLO: Yes, monkeys, bananas.
COTTER: The rallying monkeys were out in force, though, and the Anaheim Angels' first World Series win in, you know, their entire 42- year existence. Now this is unbelievable. The fans really loving it. And I think it's great. I think, you know, you don't have the Braves, we talked about it before, you don't have the Yankees in the World Series, completely two different -- completely different teams and a completely new feel to it.
COSTELLO: Yes, and it was -- it was an exciting Series. But you know, I predicted this long ago that it would be the least watched World Series in the history of television. I don't know if it was, but I know the ratings weren't great.
COTTER: Yes, especially -- I know the first half of the Series, the ratings were not good, which is kind of surprising because they are -- there are two new teams and every game was very, very exciting. I mean you know...
COSTELLO: Oh yes, Game 6, are you kidding.
COTTER: ... three last at bat wins, four of the first six games were decided by one run so I mean everything was back and forth and going right down to the wire, as you see, so I mean I think it was a great Word Series.
The one problem I do have is with all the kids in the -- in the...
COSTELLO: Oh yes. COTTER: ... in the clubhouse there.
COSTELLO: Dusty Baker's 3-year-old running out there almost...
COTTER: Running out there and crying. And then the camera staying on him when he's crying and you got 8 year olds and 5 year olds and 2 year olds.
COSTELLO: Yes, well let's quickly touch on Emmitt Smith because he had a kid with him too because he surpassed Walter Payton's record.
COTTER: Yes, and Emmitt Smith is a great guy so I mean it couldn't happen to a better guy. And Walter Payton's family was there in Dallas at Texas Stadium and looking over the whole scene, and they couldn't be any more proved -- full of approval for anybody other than Emmitt Smith because he deserved it. He's worked very, very hard and he's been a good guy.
COSTELLO: He changed his jersey four times during the game, why?
COTTER: Well they -- it may be on eBay someday, it may be out there for auction for charity someday.
COSTELLO: Oh that's pretty sick though.
COTTER: You can say I have the jersey that Emmitt Smith wore when he broke the record so.
COSTELLO: I must bring up Barry Sanders because he's a humble guy. He retired. He was the one I think that should have been breaking that record.
COTTER: Well you know what, he decided that he was going to take a little bit of a personal stance with the business issue. I mean he had a business decision in Detroit (ph).
COSTELLO: Yes, but he wouldn't have been changing his jersey four times during the game.
COTTER: No, he wouldn't of, I -- but I think Emmitt Smith is -- Emmitt Smith has done it right on the field and off the field so I mean you can't argue with what Emmitt Smith has done as a player and...
COSTELLO: Yes, he's a great player,...
COTTER: ... it certainly deserves to hold a record...
COSTELLO: ... although he did have a kid with him during his...
COTTER: During his...
COSTELLO: ... post-game interview.
COTTER: ... post-game press conference he also had his little toddler with him. And -- now this toddler was not crying so Emmitt wasn't going for the sympathy vote like Dusty Baker was. Emmitt was more going for the cute look so...
COSTELLO: Right, exactly.
COTTER: ... I've got to work on that. I've got to get something,...
COSTELLO: You need a kid.
COTTER: ... a rally monkey or something here with me...
COSTELLO: You can borrow my dog.
COTTER: ... so that people can look and give me some type of sympathy. I'll borrow your dog. We'll put him right here in between us.
COSTELLO: Yes, that'd be great.
COTTER: We can both sort of leverage it.
COSTELLO: He would love slobbering on the desk like he does -- yes.
Thank you, Chris, we appreciate it.
COTTER: Very welcome.
