CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: It is again time for the "Talk of CNN." The death of Senator Paul Wellstone is dominating the news in Minnesota.
Want to check in with "The Dave Ryan in the Morning Show," 101.3 KDWB Minneapolis St. Paul -- good morning.

DAVE RYAN, "THE DAVE RYAN IN THE MORNING SHOW," 101.3 KDWB MINNEAPOLIS ST. PAUL: Good morning, Carol.

ANGI TAYLOR, "THE DAVE RYAN IN THE MORNING SHOW," 101.3 KDWB MINNEAPOLIS ST. PAUL: Hello.

COSTELLO: Hi. How is the death of Senator Wellstone resonating in your community?

RYAN: Absolutely an enormous and very, very shocking story, Carol. I was seeing a moving on Friday and walked out of the theater laughing and joking with friends. And somebody said oh did you hear about Paul Wellstone's plane? And I -- and I didn't even think that he had died in it, I thought it was just a crash. And it -- and it was such a shock for me and I think I just kind of stood there in the parking lot for a few minutes and Angi was in the airport going down to Miami and all of Minnesota is just -- is just stunned by this whole thing.

COSTELLO: Yes, because he was really a guy who fought for the little guy and that resonated in Minnesota.

TAYLOR: He was. Wellstone is very Minnesota and he's very Democrat and he's always been such a spitfire, you know, and you always see him on the news and he's the one that's jumping up and down. He so believes in what he believes in and he's such a Minnesota mainstay and it's just unbelievable that he's not with us anymore.

COSTELLO: Oh yes. Tell us how people feel about Walter Mondale, since it seems like his name is going to replace Senator Wellstone's on the ballot.

RYAN: Well they're in a really tricky situation. They want to get a Democrat on the ballot who is electable and has a name, and obviously Walter Mondale is the choice. Minnesotans are very excited about the possibility of him running. He won't announce until after the funeral, though, I understand.

COSTELLO: Yes. The Republican candidate, have we heard from him at all? RYAN: He is such a great guy. Norm Coleman is in such a bad situation. He had a press conference yesterday and basically he's not going to campaign until at least after the funeral, which is tomorrow. And even so, he's in such a really bad situation right now. A very unfortunate situation for everyone involved.

COSTELLO: Yes, you're not kidding.

Dave and Angi, thank you very much for enlightening us this morning.

RYAN: Thank you, Carol.

TAYLOR: Thank you.

COSTELLO: Bye.
