DARYN KAGAN, CNN ANCHOR: Well, the Anaheim Angels may have won the World Series, but the next angels you're about to meet are carving a different little niche in the world. They're trying to make it better, even though they're only kids. Our guest Kelly Ripa is best known for her namesake role on "Live with Regis and Kelly." Tonight, she hosts the 2002 Angels Soft Angels in Action Award Ceremony for 10 children devoted change, and she got up entirely too early in Los Angeles this morning to join us.
Kelly, good morning.

KELLY RIPA, CO-HOST, "LIVE WITH REGIS & KELLY": Good morning.

You know, it wasn't very early for me, because I'm used to getting up at that hour anyway, so it seems like even though it was L.A. time, to me, I was still on New York time so it was fine.

KAGAN: That is good. We appreciate that.

OK, let's review here. We mentioned "Regis and Kelly," but as a I was just sharing with in the commercial break, lifelong "All My Children" fan, so you have that going in Haley Vaughn (ph). You have the show with Regis, pregnant with baby number three, and now time to honor these kids in L.A. How do you do it?

RIPA: Well, I think that first and foremost, the Angels Soft Angels in Action Awards is a wonderful organization, and I keep thinking that if I do this, then my children will somehow, by osmosis, become good people. These are good kids. They're 10 great kids that are being awarded. They each win $5,000 and a one-year supply of Angel Soft bathroom tissue, which I said, as a mother, that would be, like, the big prize to me.

KAGAN: For the mom, but not for the kids -- hey, kids, we have great news. you're such great kids, you get toilet paper.

RIPA: Exactly. They really are, though -- they're great kids. And it's just something that as a mother, I hope that my kids grow up to be these, you know, civic-minded kids who just want to do good deeds in their community, and that's what Angel Soft is doing, they're rewarding them. So getting involved with programs like, I don't really consider work. I think it's more of a joy and a privilege than anything.

KAGAN: So as a mom, it was an opportunity that you couldn't pass up.

RIPA: Absolutely.

KAGAN: Go ahead.

RIPA: No, no, you go ahead.

KAGAN: Here you are about a year and a half into the gig with Regis, and still doing "All My Children," although fans area little nervous about what's going to happen to Haley Vaughn (ph), because we're thinking that Regis might pull you away from Pine Valley.

KAGAN: It wouldn't be Regis that would pull me away, it would probably be my own children that would pull me away from "All My Children."

But you know, I will always be there. I don't think they are going to kill me off. I think I'll always be there. I probably just won't be working as much as you're used to seeing me work. I'd like to free up some more of my schedule to commit myself to things like this, like the Angels in Action Program, the Angel Soft people have been very good to devoting themselves to these kids, and just focusing on being a good parent so that my kids will someday grow up and, you know, commit acts of kindness in their communities.

KAGAN: I just have to ask you, because it has been such a phenomenal success since you joined "Live," but all the tabloids are talking about how you and Regis don't get along.

RIPA: I don't know why. I think I inherited it with the job. They printed it before me, and now they're printed it with me. I adore him. I truly love that man, and it's one of the joys of my day, besides waking up and seeing my kids, is going to who I like to refer to as my oldest kid, which is Regis, and I just -- it's the most fun our of my day. I really enjoy it. And we've never had an argument, a disagreement, you know, much less this stuff.

But I guess if it sells magazines, they have kids to support, too. So whatever, there's so many bigger problems in this world than, like. whether or not we get along, which is just kind of silly to me.

KAGAN: There you go. If you need drama, tune in to "All My Children."

RIPA: Exactly.

KAGAN: Well, I've shared with you during the commercial break that I've watched since I was in third grade, "All My Children," I'm going to encourage you to stick with the show, even if it was just a little bit, and tell your husband, Mark, to get back, too. He is Mateo (ph).

RIPA: I will tell him you said that. He's going to be shocked that you watch.

KAGAN: As are some other people.

But great to have you on. We're very excited to hear that you're going to make time for us, and good luck with the program tonight.

RIPA: Thank you very much.

KAGAN: Kelly Ripa, joining us from Los Angeles. Appreciate it.
