CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: Only in New York. Pet owners dressed up their precious pooches for a bash at the doggie day care center. You'd figure Jeanne Moos would have that story, and she does.
(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

JEANNE MOOS, CNN CORRESPONDENT (voice-over): From a shaggy lizard to a bath poodle, it's enough to give a dog an identity crisis.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: It's kind of like a cross dressing geisha girl, I guess.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Someone asked if she was Martha Stewart.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: This is Stubby.

MOOS (on camera): Stubby?

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: The sunflower.

MOOS (voice-over): About 50 costumed canines showed up for the Halloween bash at Biscuits & Bath, a five story doggie village where they come for day care or agility class or swim therapy. But on this night, dogs in baseball uniforms tried to get to first base and a pumpkin fraternized with a witch. Meloush (ph) has won four costume contests so far this year.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: She loves to be dressed. She doesn't like to take her clothes off.

MOOS (on camera): Are you sure? I mean are you sure it's not just you?

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Yes, I'm sure.

MOOS (voice-over): A dog named Snickers came dressed as one, complete with nutrition facts, a hundred percent Tibetan terrier.

(on camera): Energy high, pooh lots (ph).

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: She looks like a little hooker. I don't know what I was thinking.

MOOS (voice-over): Try and guess who this dog's supposed to be. Hint: the guy in the mask is JFK.

(on camera): And this is Jackie? UNIDENTIFIED MALE: This is Jackie O.

MOOS: And her pill box.

(voice-over): Jackie ended up having a very un-first lady like accident.

(on camera): You can dress her up but you can't take her out.

(voice-over): And a dog in Mickey Mouse ears threw up.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Too much excitement just that.

MOOS (on camera): I thought it was my outfit that kind of, you know...

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: No, no, no, no, no, no.

MOOS (voice-over): A lot of the costumes were store bought.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Say hello to everybody.

MOOS: From these hot dog Halloweeners to the basset dressed up as a pirate. But Elvis the geisha girl's outfit was homemade.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: The hair, I decapitated a doll.

MOOS: For 45 bucks, you could pose for a Halloween portrait.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: And the C-O-O-K-I-E word works.

MOOS: By the way, the witch and her owner actually wound up in a book entitled "Two Of A Kind."

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: How we look so similar.

MOOS: Now that's haunting.

Jeanne Moos, CNN, New York.
