CAROL LIN, CNN ANCHOR: Now we've been going around the country this week talking with our friends at radio stations about big political races, and today we're going to check in with KDMX in Dallas. The show is "Jeff and Anna in the Morning," and they're joining us by telephone.
Hi guys.

JEFF: Hey, how are you?

ANNA: Hey.

LIN: Hey, you got a nasty governor's race going, huh?

ANNA: Oh man!

JEFF: You know it's become over the years I guess acceptable to just sling mud and never talk about the issues.

LIN: So what are they talking about?

ANNA: They're just talking about, let me see, Rick Perry is accusing Tony Sanchez of like helping...

JEFF: Cartel.

ANNA: ... cartel in Mexico, and then, of course, Tony Sanchez is accusing Rick Perry of doing nothing about the high insurance rates.

JEFF: I have seen Governor Perry more times this week walking up to a police officer who inadvertently pulled him over and asking the police officer why don't you just let us get on down the road. I have seen that commercial a 150 times this week.

LIN: Is that supposed to imply that he's using his influence to get out of a ticket?

ANNA: Yes.

JEFF: Exactly, Carol. And you know the thing is is nobody, either one of these candidates are talking about anything of substance. And then they wonder why nobody votes.

LIN: Yes.

JEFF: What am I voting for?

LIN: I know.

ANNA: It's just gotten so nasty.

LIN: You got to wonder -- you got to wonder if people can come up with better candidates or not, you know?

ANNA: Yes, one must wonder.

LIN: What's this about a local kid starting a police force, by the way?

ANNA: Oh...

JEFF: He's so cute.

LIN: Cute.

ANNA: Zachary Talent and he's from Rowlett, Texas. He's 9 years old. But when he was seven and in the second grade, he started his own police academy, because apparently his mom did a lot of civic work and helped out the local police department and Zachary wanted to help in his own way but he was too young. So he started his own police academy and he handed out badges to other kids and they kind of police the playground.

LIN: Can they arrest their parents if they make them try to do their homework?

JEFF: I don't -- I think the parents have immunity here; but if you mess up on the slide, Zachary is there.

LIN: There you go. All right. In the meantime, do you guys care about the Winona Ryder shoplifting case as much as we do, we in the media who keep running the updated stories on it?

JEFF: I mean it's a sad story because you know you have -- you have a woman here who's, you know, attractive and talented and conceivably has plenty of money to buy whatever she wants and so it's a little odd from that perspective. But I don't know, I think -- I think a lot of us are a little burnt out on it.

ANNA: But when it comes to the nasty Texas governor's race or the Winona Ryder case, I'd rather see...

JEFF: Yes.

LIN: Yes.

ANNA: ... everything about Winona.

JEFF: We'll take Winona.

LIN: I just like to see what she wears to court everyday.

ANNA: Yes.

JEFF: Well that's....

ANNA: And her hair.

JEFF: Yes, the fashion police are always good.

LIN: Did you hear that there's -- you know Peter Guber, the movie studio head, is actually sitting on the jury. She's actually starred in some of his films that he's made money from.

JEFF: Yes, we talked...

LIN: Isn't that bizarre?

JEFF: Yes, we talked about that last week. I thought it was really strange. I would like to have a couple of my old bosses on a jury.

ANNA: Well I heard on CNN...

LIN: You must get along with your bosses.

ANNA: No, but I heard on CNN you guys were saying that actually the prosecutors wanted him because they figured he wasn't going to be impressed with Winona Ryder's star status.

LIN: Oh really!

ANNA: Yes.

JEFF: Yes, so I mean there's some -- there's that issue there, you know you're going to have a lot of people sitting in the jury box staring at her going, oh my gosh, it's a big celebrity.

ANNA: Loved her in "Beetlejuice."

JEFF: Yes.

LIN: Hey, guys, Chad Myers is sitting right next to me and he has a little note for you, Dallas staying dry today, good news.

JEFF: Yes, you know that would be nice. We're -- we've got a little bit of drizzle right now; but it's been unseasonably cool here and for us -- for us folks here in north Texas, we're freaking out.

LIN: Oh!

CHAD MYERS, CNN METEOROLOGIST: Yes, more rain coming today, I'm afraid.

ANNA: Yes.

MYERS: Yes.

ANNA: Yes, a good chance of showers and thunderstorms.

MYERS: Yes. LIN: Oh you know what, I misunderstood your note. You meant they're going to get some rain.

MYERS: Yes, tell them to stay dry...

ANNA: Yes.

LIN: OK.

MYERS: ... because everybody else is going to be wet.

LIN: All right, you take care. Take cover out there.

JEFF: All right, we will.

LIN: Thanks so much.

JEFF: All right, thank you guys.

LIN: Jeff and Anna.
