CAROL LIN, CNN ANCHOR: All right, let's turn our attention now to sports. From the football field to the basketball court, Chris Cotter of 790 The Zone in Atlanta joins us to talk about some of the big games.
CHRIS COTTER, 790 THE ZONE, ATLANTA, GEORGIA: Hello, how are you?

LIN: Good morning.

COTTER: It's been a while since I've been here with you, anyway, sitting in this seat.

LIN: I know, and never this early in the morning.

COTTER: Oh I know, for you, anyway, right?

LIN: Thanks for coming in.

COTTER: Right.

LIN: Let's talk about football, college football.

COTTER: Yes, it's a huge weekend coming up here, and it's big because there are a lot of games that have a potential for upset involved. When you talk about the top 10 in the BCS, really six or seven or eight of these teams play a game that you know might not be their biggest game of the year but it certainly is against a tough team that can beat them.

And Oklahoma is No. 1 in the BCS, and they're taking on Colorado. That's a team that runs the ball very, very effectively. I still like Oklahoma in this game because I think Colorado is too undimensional. I think Oklahoma will take it and they'll stay No. 1 in the BCS.

Some of the other teams have not quite as cut-and-dry games, I don't think. I think Notre Dame really could be in trouble against Boston College. And a lot of people will remember back in 1993 Notre Dame beat Florida State in what they were calling the game of the century. Then the following week at home, Boston College came in and upset Notre Dame. And a very similar -- eerily similar situation this year for Notre Dame as Boston College comes in and a team that could potentially knock off Notre Dame and ruin their national title hopes.

LIN: You're going to get some calls today at...

COTTER: You know what... LIN: All right, let's move you on to the NBA, the Lakers.

COTTER: Lakers are 0 and 2, and I still don't think there's a whole lot to be concerned about. The NBA started up this week. Two games in and the Lakers have injury problems. I mean Kobe Bryant is banged up, Shaquille O'Neal, of course, with the big toe; and he's going to have issues with that, really, the first half of the year. But if you remember last year, the Lakers started off very slow as well and they picked things up in the second half of the year and really didn't hit their stride until the playoffs.

In the NBA, just make the playoffs. And if you just make the playoffs, hit your stride at the end of the year, which is what the Lakers did. I think they'll do it again this year and they'll win a championship once again.

LIN: See, we should all be like Michael Jordan.

COTTER: Michael Jordan, similar to the NHL with Marial LaMue (ph), you got Michael Jordan in the NBA. These two guys, a lot of people say -- I mean Michael Jordan's retired how many times now, a couple of times,...

LIN: Yes, at least.

COTTER: ... and he's come back and he's still got it and he's still going to help that team out. How good will they be? I don't know. A playoff team? Maybe in the Eastern Conference, but it's fun (ph) when you get these 37, 38-year-old athletes coming back and still they're just that good and that legendary that they can dominate again in the sport that they once did.

LIN: Yes, what an inspiration.

COTTER: Unbelievable. It's a lot of fun.

LIN: We don't want to see him retire again.

COTTER: No, I mean they're so much fun to watch, both of them, LaMue and Jordan.

LIN: Yes.

COTTER: You just say keep playing. Just keep playing, give us whatever you can give us, that's fine.

LIN: I want to see people do well going into their 40s, you know, especially those professional athletes.

Thanks so much, Chris Cotter.

COTTER: You're very welcome.

LIN: Good to see you.

COTTER: Good to see you. LIN: We'll be listening to you on the radio.

COTTER: OK.
