MARTIN SAVIDGE, CNN ANCHOR: We began this broadcast with breaking news regarding the D.C.-area sniper case. We want to build on that now.
For that, we turn to Art Harris with developments regarding a possible Atlanta connection.

What do you have?

ART HARRIS, CNN CORRESPONDENT: CNN has learned that a bullet that was found in a man murdered here in Atlanta has been linked to a revolver that police found at the Montgomery, Alabama liquor store that was held up by the sniper suspects. And our sources are telling us at a 2:30 press conference, police are going to detail this match. It happened, the shooting happened, at a Sammy's liquor store here in Atlanta, where on the night of September 20th, a Friday night, a man was shot and killed.

The murder baffled Atlanta police. A bullet was recovered, sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation laboratory, which is a state- of-the-art lab. And they were asked to examine this bullet and tell them what kind of gun it came from. And they told them it came from a .22 revolver. Later, they got a bullet from the gun of the apparent snipers that was tested at the lab in Rockville, Maryland. That would be ATF, the Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms. This bullet was put under a microscope here in Atlanta, looked at by an examiner named Bernadette Baby (ph). She saw the grooves and lans (ph) matched, and told the Atlanta PD that there was a match. Then she was told that she had made and solved a mystery between a bullet and this Atlanta murder victim, and possible victim or gun that was used in Montgomery, Alabama that has been recovered and had been linked to the sniper suspects.

I talked to the owner of a liquor store, Sandy's liquor store in Atlanta. She said that the man who was killed on September 20th, was a friend of her families, that he was there helping out that night, was looking to possibly buy the liquor store.

No details, but apparently it looks like a robbery-homicide that could fit the MO of the sniper suspects -- Marty.

SAVIDGE: It certainly does. Art Harris, with another distressing link in what is going to be a long chain. Thank you very much.
