CATHERINE CALLAWAY, CNN ANCHOR: Washington is bracing for a possible retaliation against Americans around the world; this coming on the heels of last night's execution in Virginia of a Pakistani man who killed two CIA employees almost 10 years ago.
Here's CNN's Bob Franken.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

BOB FRANKEN, CNN NATIONAL CORRESPONDENT (on camera): There is nothing ordinary about the case of Mir Aimal Kasi, the man who nearly 10 years ago killed two people outside CIA headquarters in McLean, Virginia, and wounded three others.

However, there is a grim routine to the executions, and at 9:03 p.m., Kasi received a lethal injection and ending his life, execution for those murders.

LARRY TRAYLOR, VA. DEPT. OF CORRECTIONS: Death was pronounced at 9:07 p.m. There were no complications. Mr. Kasi did make a last statement. He simply said -- quote -- "There is no God but Allah" -- unquote.

FRANKEN: Security was beefed up here at the prison. In fact, there is concern worldwide that there might be some retaliation for the execution of Kasi. There have been demonstrations in Pakistan. Thus far, no incidents at the prison, but security people around the world are worried.

Bob Franken, CNN, Jarratt, Virginia.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

CALLAWAY: CIA Director George Tenet released this statement after the execution: "Our thoughts are with our two colleagues who were murdered January 25, 1993, as well as the three others who were wounded that day. They and their loved ones will always be part of our agency family. They will remain in our thoughts and prayers long after today."
