CATHERINE CALLAWAY, CNN ANCHOR: They are turning up the heat in Michigan in the search for terrorists. And we've got the crew from Mojo In the Morning in Detroit on the phone with us.
Hey, guys, how are you?
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Hey, good morning.
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Good.
CALLAWAY: Let's see if I can get it all right. We've got Mojo, Spike, Sarah and Eric, right?
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Absolutely. We've got, I've got a lot of us here that have all been stopped at a checkpoint at one time or another...
CALLAWAY: Yes, let's talk about that now. The Border Patrol up there randomly stopping motorists. Now, guys, we've seen this a lot along the southern states, nothing unusual. But it's upsetting some people where you are.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: We've got the busiest border right here with Michigan and Canada and within 25 miles of the border they just set up these random checkpoints. And it has, it's upset people. I don't know if you realize, but the State of Michigan, the metro Detroit area has the largest Muslim population in the country and it's amazing, people think that there's some racial profiling going on.
CALLAWAY: Well, they're probably not used to it, either, if it's just started. A lot of these Arab-Americans say they're just being unfairly targeted.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Yes, and...
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: And it's not even, it's not even just Arab- Americans. It's Mexican-Americans. It's anyone of any ethnicity that's being targeted, they feel.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: We had a Mexican born U.S. citizen who called us who was actually pulled over and I.D. checked and her trunk was checked and there was a question as to whether this plan had even been enacted yet. So there is, you know, it's a very ethnically diverse area and, of course, temperas are going to be flare if there's not more explanation for why the Border Patrol thinks that this needs to be done in the metro area.
CALLAWAY: But doesn't the Border Patrol routinely, as I said in the southern states, stop and search the cars and ask questions?
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Sure.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: But there's not really the same, I mean we have a little bit more of a guideline with the river flowing through the border that I don't know if they really have to worry about as much foot traffic sneaking across the border here. It's all within two tunnels and a bridge.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Here's the biggest thing. I mean obviously people in the metro area -- and we don't want people to get this wrong -- people in Detroit want our country to be safe. But we also think that there are better ways of doing this. And within 25 miles of the border, that's a great distance. I mean you're going out into the suburbs and actually doing random checkpoints if you're saying within 25 miles of the border.
CALLAWAY: Yes. All right, thanks, guys, for the update on what's going up there. We'll talk to you soon.
