CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: Let's talk a little sports now at 54 minutes past the hour. A couple of NFL quarterbacks suffered injuries in Sunday's games. One player was sent to the hospital, but the others stayed around for a career day.
Joining us to talk about all of that is Chris Cotter of 790 The Zone right here in Atlanta.

Good morning.

CHRIS COTTER, 790 THE ZONE: Good morning, Carol.

COSTELLO: Oh, it was something this weekend, wasn't it?

COTTER: An unbelievable day yesterday with the two injuries. And, first of all, you know, look at Tommy Maddox with Pittsburgh and we've been talking about it all year, how he was sort of this comeback player who'd been around the league for so long and hadn't really, hadn't had much success. And then to get this hit right here, it looks fairly innocent, you know, the hit here against Tennessee. But he had loss of feeling in some of his limbs on the field. And they were really concerned, took him right to the hospital. And last report last night he actually started to get some of that feeling back.

And whenever you get an injury like that, it always takes a while, you know, a good 24 hours or so before you can really start to figure out how serious the injury is.

COSTELLO: And the reason it happened is when he fell his shoulder went up to his head.

COTTER: Yes, it was a nerve situation where he got a pinch in his neck.

COSTELLO: So is it likely with this type of injury that he'll be back?

COTTER: Well, you know what, again, it's so hard to tell. They always reevaluate players on Monday with any type of injury before they make a player personnel decision, and that's what they're going to do with Donovan McNabb today, as well, with Philadelphia. I mean Maddox's injury certainly looks a lot more serious than McNabb's, and you would think it would be. McNabb had a, we know what his injury is, the broken ankle. And the amazing thing with him is he played the entire game yesterday after breaking the ankle.

Here's the hit and this was in the first quarter of the game. And he stayed in the game. What a great athlete.

COSTELLO: Oh, yes.

COTTER: I mean what a testament to what type of an athlete he is that he could stay in the game and have a great game doing it. And Philadelphia just mowed down Arizona in the game. The problem is just a week ago I told you that if there was one player that one team could not afford to lose for their Super Bowl run, it was Philadelphia and Donald McNabb.

Now, Koy Dettmar (ph), a kid from Colorado, the University of Colorado, will get a chance to start for them. We'll see if he can carry them to the playoffs, because McNabb may be back and ready to go, if they get to the playoffs, to take it for a Super Bowl run.

COSTELLO: Yes, because he's out four to six weeks. But knowing him, might he want to come back earlier, even with the injured ankle?

COTTER: Well, he certainly may try. But it might be a situation where Philadelphia would say hey, we think we've got this division locked up. The defense might be enough to carry them to win the division and then they may want to wait and have a healthy Don McNabb back for a playoff run when the competition gets a little tougher.

COSTELLO: Yes, hopefully they'll keep going because that's been a great story this year, too, Philadelphia.

COTTER: It has been.

COSTELLO: A wild division.

Thank you, Chris Cotter, as usual.

COTTER: You're welcome.

COSTELLO: See you next Friday.

COTTER: OK.

COSTELLO: Or earlier if something else dire happens in the world of sports.

COTTER: Odds up.
