CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: Let's talk sports now.
CHAD MYERS, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Did you get back in time in the United States for some football yesterday?

COSTELLO: I did. I did.

MYERS: I'm sure you did.

COSTELLO: Unfortunately, I watched the Detroit game and I was so depressed I turned it off.

MYERS: Ooh, yes.

COSTELLO: But anyway, there are a lot of upsetting happened in the world of -- upsetting things happened in the world of football.

MYERS: I know what you mean.

COSTELLO: Yes. So we're going to talk to our friend Jimmy Barrett.

MYERS: Good morning, Jimmy.

JIMMY BARRETT, WRVA RADIO CORRESPONDENT: Good morning, kids. Glad you got the memo. We're all wearing gray today. Oops, they've got my picture up. The Web cam's not working. But that's OK, I brought highlights today.

MYERS: Oh, good.

COSTELLO: Oh, great. Hey, let's start with the most upsetting one of all, out of Philadelphia.

BARRETT: Not a good day for quarterbacks. Well, first of all, in Philadelphia, Donovan McNabb -- there I am.

MYERS: There he is.

BARRETT: Donovan McNabb fractured his ankle in the first quarter. The Eagles victory of Arizona. Here's the...

MYERS: Oh.

COSTELLO: Oh, I hate looking at this.

BARRETT: Here's the hit. Down, crunch, there you go. Here's the thing that's amazing about Donovan McNabb. You know, a lot of quarterbacks in the National Football League have a reputation for, well, not for being tough guys, let's put it that way. But this guy had this fractured ankle from the first quarter on, played the rest of the game on a fractured ankle. Now they're saying, you know, anywhere from four to eight weeks that he's going to be out. My guess is that it'll be closer to four than eight. If there's any way he can get back, he's going to.

But that could really mess up the season for the Philadelphia...

COSTELLO: A lot of people were picking them to go to the Super Bowl this year.

BARRETT: That really changes the odds.

How about Tommy Maddox? Did you see they hit on Tommy Maddox?

COSTELLO: Oh, sad. Yes, I did.

BARRETT: It really didn't look that serious when it happened. Here it comes right now. Tommy Maddox, you know, he gets, he looks like he misses the brunt of the hit...

MYERS: Impossible.

BARRETT: ... but it's right on the back of the neck.

MYERS: There's Tommy.

COSTELLO: Yes, but the shoulder to the neck, that's the thing that does it, Jimmy.

BARRETT: Well, exactly, and what have you, as you can see, they're taking him off the field, putting him in an ambulance. It took 15 minutes to get him off the field. There weren't a lot of updates on his condition to begin with. It turns out, though, that he's gotten all the feeling back in all of his extremities. He's going to be OK. There's no word on how long he is going to be out.

COSTELLO: Oh, and it's such a great story with him, too. All the best to him.

BARRETT: Well, you know, you like those stories, don't you guys, coming off the bench, second or third string quarterbacks that needed up turning a team around? And, of course, the folks in Pittsburgh want to get Tommy Maddox back in a hurry.

Now...

COSTELLO: Yes, because now they've got Kordell Stewart again.

BARRETT: Yes, well, you know it could be worse. They could have Charlie Batch in there.

COSTELLO: Oh, no.

MYERS: No.

BARRETT: Ask Lions fans how they feel about Charlie Batch.

COSTELLO: Not good.

BARRETT: Have we got time for an upset special?

COSTELLO: Sure, go ahead.

BARRETT: Minnesota Vikings, two and seven against the Green Bay Packers. They were playing in the frozen tundra at Lambeau Field because Brett Favre does not do all that well when he's playing at the Metrodome. But that's a good one. That's the Donald driver. That's probably the highlight of the entire game for Brett Favre, who had three interceptions.

COSTELLO: Ooh.

MYERS: Yes.

BARRETT: Three interceptions yesterday and right here you've got a great run coming up, the Minnesota Vikings. They were able to run all day long against the Green Bay Packers. Finally it ended up, by the way, 31 to 21, 31-21, a 10 point victory for the Minnesota Vikings.

And San Diego, I think, was probably the best game of the day. That was the overtime game yesterday. A tale of...

MYERS: Great comeback.

BARRETT: Yes. A tale of two different kickers. I think they're going to be hanging up the help wanted signs...

MYERS: Oh, yes.

BARRETT: ... in San Francisco after that game yesterday. Can you kick? I don't care. Anybody. If you can...

COSTELLO: Oh, no.

BARRETT: ... left-footed, right-footed. Here's the chance for...

COSTELLO: Oh!

BARRETT: A bit wide, right? No good. In overtime.

MYERS: Just a little outside.

BARRETT: It would have won the game. Yes, they're upset. They're very happy, though, in San Diego, because there's Steve Christie (ph). He puts it right straight through the upright. He always makes those clutch kicks. 20 to 17, but...

COSTELLO: Well, and I must say I'm pretty happy for Marty Schottenheimer.

BARRETT: Well, yes. You know, Marty got a bum deal, I think, in Washington, coaching for the Washington Redskins. You know, you've got to like the fact that he's been so successful there. And he's part of a real logjam out in the AFC West. There's a lot of logjams. Look at the AFC East, Miami six and four, New England five and five, Buffalo five and five, the Jets are five and five. There's some really interesting divisional races right now.

COSTELLO: Unbelievable. That's right. At least it's interesting this year.

BARRETT: Yes.

COSTELLO: That's how we like it, Jimmy Barrett.

We've got to go. Thank you very much.

MYERS: Thanks, buddy.

BARRETT: Bye, guys. Thank you. Appreciate it. See you later.

MYERS: See you.

Didn't get to say congratulations to Tony Stewart for winning the Winston Cup national championship yesterday.

COSTELLO: Oh, jeez, I know. We forgot.

MYERS: But that's all right.

COSTELLO: We're going to have to give you a special segment on racing.

MYERS: OK, we'll try that next hour.

COSTELLO: Yes.
