DARYN KAGAN, CNN ANCHOR: Just look at the stock market, you can see it as not the greatest time to be in the computer industry, but that has not 100,000 people from showing up in Las Vegas at the annual Comdex Convention, including our own Daniel Sieberg, our tech geek, we say that with affection.
LEON HARRIS, CNN ANCHOR: Calling him a geek?

KAGAN: That's a good thing in the computer world.

HARRIS: You weren't lying.

KAGAN: You asked if I called him a geek -- there you go.

What is that?

DANIEL SIEBERG, CNN TECHNOLOGY CORRESPONDENT: Well, we're here -- you know, we're here at Comdex. The show floor hasn't opened today, but I'm sitting in what is billed as the future of the personal work space. And we're in this cubicle of the future in a sense here made by a company called Personal Computing Environments, I'm joined by Benjamin Moglin. He is the chief technology officer, and he can explain a bit about what I'm sitting in here exactly.

Now this is designed to be a comfortable working environment. Tell me about that.

BENJAMIN MOGLIN, WWW.MYPCE.COM: First of all, Danny, what we did is we designed the system from the inside out. What we focused on first was the human that was going to be inside this. We wanted to get them really comfortable, ergonomically correct.

SIEBERG: So we've got the chair here, first of all, and then tell me about the spine that goes down the back, and these arms here.

MOGLIN: Absolutely. What we've done here is we've got a spine that we refer to. It's two aluminum pipes that everything attaches to, and this is a modular design. So once the human is in this environment, then we bring the technologies to them.

SIEBERG: These are all adjustable here, you can see these monitors are attached. I can open these up, and everything here is fit to my specifications once I sit in this?

MOGLIN: Absolutely. Once you've organized this environment for you, it's set, little minor adjustments to get in, out. SIEBERG: OK, we've got a computer here, a joystick, a couple of monitors, that comes with it. But the price, tell me about the price for the model we're sitting in right now that I'm sitting in right now.

MOGLIN: This model that you're sitting on right now is referred to as a masterpiece, it's the top of the line. We take all the newest technology in the marketplace, we put it inside the environment.

SIEBERG: Fast computer, high speed computer, speakers, all that.

MOGLIN: The best of everything for the human that's inside this. And this is around $8,000.

SIEBERG: All right, let's move on to the next one here if you can help me get out of this here.

MOGLIN: Absolutely.

SIEBERG: And these are just available this week, you're basically debuting them al Comdex.

MOGLIN: We launched them yesterday.

SIEBERG: We've got the other model. What can you tell me the difference between this model and that model.

MOGLIN: Other than the color, it's a scaled-down version. It starts with the same standard spine. It comes with a lesser technology component. Instead of a three gigahertz processor, it's a two gigahertz processor.

SIEBERG: And this base model here is about $4,000.

MOGLIN: $4, 000.

SIEBERG: Now what about someplace to put all of your stuff, I mean, like drawers and that sort of thing, does it come with that as well?

MOGLIN: Well, again, it starts off with this standard -- standard spine. Everything's ready to put on the arms.

SIEBERG: I see.

MOGLIN: So when we take a look at the user groups of the individuals using this, we want to be able to customize this for them. We've got a lot of different accessories that attach to these arms.

SIEBERG: So places to put your papers or pens.

MOGLIN: Everything that you can imagine we can put in this environment.

SIEBERG: OK, great. Well, this may be the future of the work space, Daryn and Leon. I guess the only problem would be whether you can get out of your chair and move around. You may be so comfortable you may not be able to move anywhere.

Benjamin Moglin, thanks so much for joining us. Back to you guys.

KAGAN: Daniel, can you hear us? I'm not sure if you can.

SIEBERG: I'm sorry.

KAGAN: You're able to hear us, because we have a couple questions for you.

MOGLIN: Absolutely, yes.

KAGAN: First of all, Leon had a good question, how about an old- fashioned place just to write, like if you had a piece of paper and a pen.

HARRIS: We didn't notice any writing surface.

SIEBERG: Places to write, Daryn's wondering about places to write. I notice there's a flat space over here. Can you write on that?

MOGLIN: Absolutely. We can extend these around to have a full surround table that comes around in here. We didn't bring any of those versions at the launch, because if we brought what was in our research, it would just be confusing to the people that actually saw it, so we've got to break them into this a little bit at a time. It curves around like this for either side, depending if they're left- handed or right-handed.

SIEBERG: And you get to choose your color, Daryn, I understand.

KAGAN: I kind of like the red. The producer's wondering about a cup holder, Daniel -- where do you put the Diet Coke?

SIEBERG: A cup holder, is there any plans to put that in, or is there one here already?

MOGLIN: Of course we have cup holders.

SIEBERG: Of course they thought about a cup holder. Is that on here right now or is that an attachment?

MOGLIN: Again, it's an attachment that goes right before here. It depends on the person that builds the system. It's a build-to- order strategy, so we really focus on what that human needs.

SIEBERG: Right and every human -- a lot of humans who are working need that caffeine, so we're assuming that they're going to think about that and where to put it. But, you know, maybe the future of the work space here at Comdex guys -- back to you.
