CAROL LIN, CNN ANCHOR: And we want to take a closer look at how things are going at some of the nation's airports as well, specifically CNN's Maria Hinojosa is live at New York's La Guardia.
And so far, so good, Maria?

MARIA HINOJOSA, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Well, Carol, we've been here since 5:00 in the morning. So far, so good. 5:00 in the morning, this place was packed. Right now, et cetera, the ebb and the flow. We are expecting 40 percent more travelers through this airport than last year. Last year after September 11th, a lot of people feeling skittish about flying. This year, 80,000 passengers, 100,000 pieces of luggage expected.

Earlier today, out on the tarmac, a long line of planes and some tricky weather conditions. There had been some light snow, some rain, pretty slippery inside. The people who were waiting in lines found that most of the long lines that they were facing were not actually at the ticket counters, but into the security checkpoints.

At one point here in La Guardia, there was about a 45-minute wait to get into the security checkpoint. Right now, we're hearing, probably less than a minute now, we're hearing that at other airports, JFK, maybe five minutes, O'Hare And Washington D.C., maybe 10 minutes and Boston, Los Angeles, about four minutes. The transportation security administration trying to keep that under control. So far, I have to tell you, things are moving safely. They put extra staffing at the ticket counters to try to make this a pretty manageable day.

LIN: Good. And the scene behind you looks pretty good. And hopefully keep your fingers crossed, and it will hold throughout the day. Maria Hinojosa.

HINOJOSA: I have to say, though, the one nice thing, sometimes you get to the airport and people are looking kind of carried, and frustrated and pulling and screaming. Things are pretty low key. Everybody seems to have left enough time when they're getting here to actually have a couple of burgers and coffee. So pretty good overall.

LIN: All right, I like that idea, burgers and coffee, and then a good flight home.

Thanks so much, Maria Hinojosa, live at La Guardia..
