CAROL LIN, CNN ANCHOR: Mr. Moviephone, Russ Leatherman, he joins us to talk about what's playing.
Hi, Russ. Good morning.

RUSS LEATHERMAN, "MR. MOVIEPHONE": Hey, Carol. How's it going?

LIN: It's going well. I know it's early out there.

LEATHERMAN: Does it feel? Does it touch? It's alive.

LIN: What is this movie about? Can you tell me?

LEATHERMAN: Well, I got to tell you, it's a sci-fi without the adventure. Movigoers have to be careful, because when you go see a movie like this, you might be expecting some great space action and all that stuff. You got none of that. What you've got is a pretty serious drama about a guy, George Clooney, who goes to a space station, and once he gets up there, he discovers there is strange things going on. His dead wife reappears, and it's all about their relationship and is he making her up and all this stuff.

So it's one of those movies if you had a big turkey sandwich before you go, that could be trouble, because you could get a little sleepy, and all of a sudden, you find yourself passed out in the theater. It's good, it's a good movie, but it's not a lot of action. It's a thoughtful movie, you have to think about it; you talk to your friends about it. But be careful on the turkey, because it's get you for this movie.

LIN: It sounds like your saying it's a chick flick described as a guy's movie.

LEATHERMAN: Let's talk about it, OK. George Clooney's rear end was the big topic for this movie.

LIN: That's right. We actually get to see the real thing, don't we?

LEATHERMAN: The ladies do get a couple shots of his backside. I would say, chick flick, sure. But it's a good movie, it's Steven Soderbergh, but it's really thoughtful. It's not a big sci-fi extravaganza, so don't be expecting that.

LIN: All right, what about "Eight Crazy Nights?"

LEATHERMAN: What about "Eight Crazy Nights?" This is Adam Sandler's new animated movies. And I can tell you something, this is not for the kids. If you're heading to the theater and you actually walk into "Eight Crazy Nights" instead of "Treasure Planet," you've got some trouble. This is really, it's a pretty vulgar, pretty foul, lots of poo humor in this movie, and it's a prime case of a studio giving a star way too much leeway and kind of just letting him do what he wants. I love Adam Sandler, and I love "The Water Boy" and I love "Happy Gilmore: ad a lot of his other movies, but I thought this just wasn't particularly funny.

And so I guess The audience is boys 13-15, so they'll like it, but anywhere on the other side, they're not going to be too thrilled with this.

LIN: Yes, Adam Sandler, he plays a lot of the different characters, too, male and female.

LEATHERMAN: He does. And he does a lot of the voicing. A lot of his voices are funny. We really enjoy them as moviegoers, but I was more irritated. Look at me, Mr. Moviefone, talk about being irritated by somebody's voice. That's ironic somehow.

But it really was just kind of foul humor and just not particularly funny.

LIN: All right, what's "Treasure Planet." This is another animation, but not so foul-mouthed, I don't think?

LEATHERMAN: Yes, "Treasure Planet," if you're going to take the family to go see a movie this holiday weekend, you probably want to go see "Treasure Planet." It is a redo of the classic, except this time the ships are flying around in space, and it's really a good family movie. In fact, it's the perfect movie to grab everybody in the house and take them to this movie, because in a movie theater, you're guaranteed at least two hours of your crazy Aunt Mable not yakking at you.

LIN: Don't tell her that.

LEATHERMAN: But drag her into "Treasure Planet," and I guarantee, she'll have to be quiet for at least two hours. But this is the one, if you want to take everybody to the movies this weekend, this is probably the one to go to.

LIN: All right, do you think "James Bond" is going to be able to hold its numbers?

LEATHERMAN: Well, it's not going to be able to hold its numbers, but it will do very well. Everybody enjoyed the Bond movie. I enjoyed it. "Harry Potter" is going to do well this weekend.

There is another movie "Far from Heaven" for the more kind of maybe mature moviegoers, they might like that this weekend. So there are a lot of good movies out there, you just have to be careful.

LIN: All right, mature moviegoers, let me know if you meet some, OK, this holiday season. LEATHERMAN: I am clearly not talking about myself.

LIN: OK, Russ, thanks for joining us.
