CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: It's time now, though, to go to Norfolk, Virginia. After six months overseas, the USS George Washington and its battle group return home this morning.
CNN's Bob Franken is in Norfolk for the big event, and it's good they're home just in time for Christmas.

BOB FRANKEN, CNN NATIONAL CORRESPONDENT: Just in time for Christmas, and it seems to happen every time, just in time for some bad weather. The weather that Chad was talking about is affecting us here. There is a very heavy wind, there's a front moving through, but you're not interested in that.

What you are interested in is the fact that later this morning, the George Washington and its battle group, altogether about 7,500 sailors and Marines, 5,000 or so aboard the aircraft carrier itself, the carrier will be pulling into right here, where it will be greeted by thousands of family members. They haven't really started showing up, just a few so far. Of course, the weather is affecting that. But they're going to be welcoming back people who have been at sea since June, for six months, almost six months as a matter of fact, in the Mediterranean and the Persian Gulf, back home now; of course, facing uncertainties in the future about when the next deployment will come -- Carol.

COSTELLO: All right, well, welcome home to them, and I'm sure the family members will show up soon despite the weather. Bob Franken, thanks.
