CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: So now it's time to check in with Travelocity's air traffic expert Rally Caparas who has his "Eye on the Sky," and we mean really.
Are the planes flying on time and -- oh, it's so nasty?

RALLY CAPARAS, AIR TRAFFIC EXPERT, TRAVELOCITY.COM: Well, Carol, as you know, up in the Northeast I'd venture to say that "I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas" is the least sung song up there in the Northeast today.

Folks, if you're flying into or out of the Northeast, you can expect major delays. Boston's Logan Airport, as we speak, there are about 600 airplanes in the sky. That will quadruple over the next couple of hours. We'll consistently see about 2,000 to 3,000 airplanes today.

If you're headed into the major airports in the Northeast, including Boston Logan, you can expect to see somewhere in the neighborhood of 45 to 60 minute arrival delays. Low clouds, snow, wind, a single runway operation is the main reason there; however, strong winds will keep delays going once we see some clearing later today.

Newark and LaGuardia airports in New York City or around New York City, 30 to 45 minute arrival delays will be the norm for most of the day. As you'd expect, they're digging out of the snow there. It's limited taxiway use and limited runway use there also.

JFK, however, has got the most significant delays in New York. They will see 45 to 60 minute arrival and departure delays. A single runway operation, once again, reduces the arrival capacity of those airports. Limited taxiways makes it real difficult for airplanes to maneuver. And you can count on departure delays of at least 30 minutes for everybody, extra time on the airport surface as they spray your airplane down for deicing.

The northeastern quarter of the United States, departure delays will be the norm all the way from Cleveland over to New York and Boston, down into the D.C. Metro areas. The central part of the United States and the southern tier, excellent flight conditions all day long. The only place on the West Coast of any concern will be San Francisco International. They'll have some low clouds, light rain. As Chad told us earlier, that'll mean 30-minute arrival delays throughout most of the day.

Tomorrow's going to be an excellent flying -- day to fly or travel throughout the United States. I'll be back tomorrow morning with more from Travelocity's Eye on the Sky -- Carol.

COSTELLO: And it's safe to remind people that if the planes are late in the morning, it's likely they'll be even later throughout the day.

CAPARAS: Exactly. Exact. Domino effect, as you've heard before, takes place.

COSTELLO: Yes, it's an ugly factor.

Rally, thanks, we'll see you tomorrow.

CAPARAS: I'll be back.

COSTELLO: OK.
