DARYN KAGAN, CNN ANCHOR: The party is over indeed; time for the clean up. We're going to go over to Times Square right now. That is where the New Year's Eve partiers are all gone. Amazingly, so is the mess. It's already cleaned up.
Hazel Sanchez of our affiliate WCBS is there.

Hazel -- good morning. Happy New Year to you.

HAZEL SANCHEZ, CNN WCBS REPORTER: Good morning, and happy New Year to you as well.

What an amazing sight it was last night here in Times Square. You saw the pictures; 25 tons of debris came showering here on Times Square -- that's confetti, streamers and balloons. And take a look at the ground now. The only thing left is this lonely, poor, little streamer here. It's almost as if the party here never happened.

An army of streets sweepers plowed through the crossroads of the world overnight. The sanitation department here in the city had 70 workers out here cleaning up after an estimated 750,000 revelers -- that is 250,000 more than they expected. They think that mild weather -- we were in the upper 40s here last night -- that may have been a factor.

If you can come back to me on camera right now, the only thing that is left here this morning are the barricades that the police set up to pen in all of the crowds that were out here packing Times Square.

Now, there were about 2,000 police officers out here keeping a very close eye on the crowds last night. They had relatively no problems. This morning, they are reporting only three arrests -- two disorderly conducts and one criminal possession of a controlled substance. They said their major problem here in Times Square was parking and moving violations. But you know, Daryn, parking has always been a problem here in New York City.

KAGAN: Absolutely. I saw them towing a few cars when I was out there yesterday afternoon.

Hazel, thank you so much.

SANCHEZ: No problem.

KAGAN: And happy New Year to you.

SANCHEZ: Happy New Year to you.
