LEON HARRIS, CNN ANCHOR: Israel responds to a pair of suicide bombings that killed 22 people and wounded more than 100. Part of the response includes new restrictions on Palestinians.
Our Jerusalem bureau chief Mike Hanna checks in now. He's live with the latest on the Middle East crisis.

Hello, Mike.

MIKE HANNA, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Well, hello.

Israel taking stringent action in Palestinian territories. More than 20 Palestinians have been arrested in the course of the day. Stringent closures imposed on a number of Palestinian areas. All of this in the wake of the double suicide bombing in Tel Aviv that killed more than 20 people and wounded well over 100. Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon visited some of the wounded in the course of the day in a Tel Aviv hospital, this after he had a meeting with senior ministers in his government to decide what steps to take in the wake of that Tel Aviv attack.

And a large number of measures being taken by Israel. Israel has decided to outlaw a meeting of Palestinian Central Committee members that is due to take place later this week in Ramallah. In addition, it says it will not allow a Palestinian delegation to visit London for a conference due to take place later this month.

Also, Israel has closed, or announced it will close, three Palestinian universities, and it said that the Israeli government has instructed its military to step up its crackdown on militants, including the targeted killings as Israel calls it, of selected Palestinian militants.

So an upsurge in the conflict in the region, all of this in the wake of yet another suicide bomb attack, the first one in a six-week period in Tel Aviv -- Leon.

HARRIS: Mike Hanna reporting live from Jerusalem.

Thank you, Mike. Take care, be careful over there.
