CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: From business to business travel, we want to check in with Travelocity's air traffic expert.
Rollie Caparas has his eye on the sky, as usual. Rollie joins us by phone this morning.

You know, since the crash in North Carolina, Rollie, there are sure to be a lot of nervous travelers. Give us a reality check before you get into it.

ROLLIE CAPARAS, AIR TRAFFIC SPECIALIST: Well, Carol, the facts are that we're still talking about the safest mode of transportation in the United States. Yes, there are a lot of anxious travelers out there, but you, you know, it's just machines are going to fail and that happened yesterday. Well, that's preliminary speculation. Weather didn't have anything to do with it, based on my estimation, you know, traffic density. There weren't any other aircraft involved and you're talking about a simple mechanical failure. That is no consolation to those that lost loved ones in that accident, but those are the facts. And so people need to keep in mind most of all, first and foremost, air travel is still the safest mode of transportation, even above walking, in this country.

COSTELLO: OK.

CAPARAS: So let's talk about the delays today, folks. The major airports in the eastern half of the United States will see a full day of excellent flight conditions and on time schedules throughout. So good news as far as that's concerned. Here's one for the nervous travelers, however. New York City metros, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, you will experience some strong northwest winds today and that's going to create a bumpy ride during your arrival and departure phases of flight, the low altitude stuff.

So stay calm, keep your seat belts fastened, everything is going to be fine.

In the central United States or the country's mid-section, you'll see good flight conditions throughout and on time schedules there, also. So it's really working up to be an excellent day for most of the country. Phoenix Sky Harbor and the Southwest, we'll see 15 to 30 minute arrival and departure delays because of runway and taxiway construction, which will continue until February the 28th. And then finally out West, San Francisco International will see 30 minute arrival delays. Low clouds and mist early will reduce the airport's visibility there by creating the need to spread things out for safety. And then rain will kick in in the afternoon and evening hours. But overall, it should be an excellent day for on time air travel throughout the United States.

Carol, I'll be back in the morning with more from Travelocity's Eye On The Sky.

Back to you.

COSTELLO: OK, always nice to hear from you, Rollie.

Thanks.
