One Officer Killed in Deadly Raid Related To Ricin Probe In England

CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: Over in England this morning, British police are questioning several people, after an officer was stabbed to death during an antiterrorism raid.
CNN's Matthew Chance joins us live from Manchester, England with what happened.

Good morning.

MATTHEW CHANCE, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Thanks, Carol.

And there is a lot of concern here amongst the local community and amongst the police having lost this police officer, who was the first British law enforcement agent to be killed in an antiterrorism operation certainly since the attacks against Washington and New York on September the 11th.

The raid at this premises here in Manchester in the north of England has been linked by police, connected they say, to the seizure last week of a quantity of the deadly toxin, ricin, in north London. The exact nature, though, of the linkage has not been made clear to us, though.

Inside, you can see, though, forensic teams of the police are still going through the property, trying to find any evidence they can. But the people inside who have been arrested now are linked with terrorism. Indeed, there is a nationwide investigation under way to try and get to grips and to bring people into custody who police believe are linked with terrorism groups.
