CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: If you're a Pete Townsend fan and a fan of The Who, you know that everybody's talking about Pete Townsend and concerns that he may be involved in some way with child pornography. It's time for the Talk of CNN.
We want to check in with the Dave Ryan In The Morning Show from Minneapolis, St. Paul.

Dave and Angie, good morning.

DAVE RYAN, KDWB RADIO TALK SHOW HOST: Good morning.

ANGIE TAYLOR, KDWB RADIO TALK SHOW HOST: Good morning.

RYAN: Hey, by the way, Carol, that's our old ugly picture. We would like to see our new, handsome, attractive photo.

COSTELLO: Yes, and what would that look like?

TAYLOR: Blank.

RYAN: Elton John checks in because you knew that he would add his two cents to the Pete Townsend chaos.

COSTELLO: Oh, yes.

RYAN: He says, "I am very shocked. I hope it's not as bad as it sounds. I'm a friend of Pete's. I love Pete and my thoughts are with him."

You know, there's, I guess the big controversy is, you know, if he did do this legitimately, it was just a really stupid way to research his book. But there is some evidence, I'm sure you guys have talked about it on CNN, about how he has written about this and there are letters and documents that prove he's written about this for a couple of years.

COSTELLO: Oh, yes. And the rock opera "Tommy" was about, you know, an abused boy. And he wrote that in 1969.

RYAN: Yes.

TAYLOR: Yes, but my question about the whole thing is if he was really researching, why is he being suspected of disturbing child pornography as well? I mean why would you distribute anything if you're doing research?

COSTELLO: Well, British authorities aren't letting that part of the story out of the bag yet, but we're going to keep following it.

Something else I wanted to talk about quickly, though...

RYAN: Sure.

COSTELLO: ... and it's become sort of a trend in Hollywood in the music industry are these T-shirts against a war with Iraq. Sheryl Crow was wearing such a T-shirt on the American Music Awards. Did you see it?

RYAN: Carol, we did. TAYLOR: We did.

RYAN: It said, "War Is Not The Answer." And the ironic thing about an entertainer being against the war, hey, you know what? Nobody wants us to go to war. But let's face it, the war in the Middle East will be about the control of the world's oil.

COSTELLO: And?

RYAN: The world runs on oil and people like Sheryl Crow consume so much petroleum and resources in their, you know, in their limos and their Navigators, their semis full of speakers and lights that they travel around the country.

COSTELLO: Are you accusing Sheryl Crow of driving an SUV?

RYAN: Absolutely. Yes. And I think she's being just slightly hypocritical. Hey, listen, I drive an SUV, too. But, you know, I'm not wearing a shirt that says hey, no, war is not the answer. So I think it's slightly hypocritical.

COSTELLO: Do you think, though, a shirt like that worn on, you know, national television will really sway people to that side of the issue?

TAYLOR: Well, if you place all your beliefs in what a rock star has on their T-shirt, then you've got other issues.

(CROSSTALK)

COSTELLO: Well, I think you hit that one on the nail or that one on the head, whatever that saying is.

Thank you, Dave, Angie, from Minneapolis St. Paul. Fun as always.
