CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: Are you tired of spending a lot of time at the post office every time you want to mail a package? Clark Howard, our Pocketbook Protector and author of "Get Clark Smart," has some advice for you.
(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

CLARK HOWARD, CNN POCKETBOOK PROTECTOR: OK, here's something that blows my mind. Over and over again I hear from people about how long the line was at the post office to send some package from point a to point b (ph). I want you to know about a fantastic alternative that's really only become possible in a big way in the last year and that's sending it with the new Federal Express service called FedEx Ground.

It's really cheap, it's really easy to use and you can buy your FedEx shipping online at FedEx.com. And remember if you go there, go to ground not air. If you're delivering something to somebody within 300 miles, almost always it'll go overnight and it'll go extra cheap. And they'll show you on a service map how long it'll take for the item to get there. You can track it online. You can go to any of the FedEx drop places and send your FedEx Ground and they have a fair number of staffed facilities.

In addition to FedEx Ground, UPS has a ground service that also is really good. Not as easy for you to connect with as a consumer as the FedEx drop points, but they both offer a really superior choice to you going to the U.S. Postal Service. Not a knock on postal workers, the reality though is FedEx and UPS make it much easier for you to ship packages and track them.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

COSTELLO: Clark Howard visits us often. You can go ahead and e- mail us with your questions and we'll save them for his next appearance. The address is Daybreak@CNN.com.
