HEIDI COLLINS, CNN ANCHOR: "Chicago," "Chicago" and "The Hours" were the top movies at the Golden Globe Awards.
CNN's Daryn Kagan was in Beverly Hills when those awards were presented.

She tells us who got the honors.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Give 'em the old razzle dazzle, Golden Globe alum.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

DARYN KAGAN, CNN CORRESPONDENT (voice-over): The Golden Globes were handed out on the edge of Beverly Hills. But it was all about "Chicago" on Sunday night. The film took three awards, including best picture in the comedy or musical category. And the film's lead actors also walked with Globes.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP FROM 'CHICAGO")

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Angry and wild.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Wild.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Richard Gere, "Chicago."

RICHARD GERE, ACTOR: I'm literally, totally shocked. I don't win anything.

ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER: Rene Zellwegger for "Chicago."

RENE ZWELIGER (PH), ACTOR: Oh, my god.

KAGAN: But the evening wasn't all about razzle dazzle. Some history was made, as well. Jack Nicholson won the best actor drama award for his role in "About Schmidt." Nicholson now has six Globes. That's more than any actor ever.

JACK NICHOLSON, ACTOR: Well, I don't know whether to be happy or ashamed, because I thought we made a comedy. KAGAN: Martin Scorsese was happy, too. Believe it or not, the veteran filmmaker had never won an Oscar or a Golden Globe. But with "Gangs of New York," that all changed on Sunday night.

MARTIN SCORSESE, BEST DIRECTOR: Well, this picture has been a dream of mine. They always say a dream, but it's, this is really, maybe a dream come true is a cliche because cliches are true.

KAGAN: From the small screen, the story was all about cable. HBO led the pack, which included first time winner Kim Cattrall for her role on HBO's "Sex In the City."

KIM CATTRALL, BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS: You have no idea how many men I've had to sleep with to get this award.

KAGAN: FX's "The Shield" beat out some very heady challengers, winning best television drama over "The West Wing" and "The Sopranos." But "The Sopranos" didn't go away empty-handed. Edie Falco won best actress in a TV drama, even though her voice failed her in her big moment.

EDIE FALCO, BEST ACTRESS: I can't talk. I have laryngitis, I swear to god. This is so funny.

KAGAN (on camera): And so the story from here is all about momentum. The ballots for Oscar nominations are due in less than 10 days and if history is any indication, what happened at the Golden Globe will have a big influence on those nominations. Looking back, films that won best picture Golden Globes have gone on to win the majority of best movie at the Academy Awards.

In Beverly Hills, Daryn Kagan, CNN.
