CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: We want to focus now on Iraq and the weapons search. Twenty-four hours after Baghdad agrees to improve cooperation, let's see what the inspectors are up to today.
Our Rym Brahimi joins us from Baghdad with that and with Iraq's preparations for war.

RYM BRAHIMI, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Iraq has pledged more cooperation to U.N. weapons inspectors, but chief U.N. weapons inspectors Hans Blix and Mohamed ElBaradei say Iraq still needs to create more confidence. For that, they say, there needs to be more evidence, more questions answered.

In the meantime, as Iraq says it is prepared to implement an agreement that was made yesterday with the two chief U.N. weapons inspectors, inspections on the ground continue throughout the country. At least nine sites being checked on this day.

Meanwhile, President Saddam Hussein appeared again on Iraqi TV confident, addressing the commanders of his Republican Guard. Clearly a message saying he will not step down, as other Iraqi officials criticized the United States for pursuing the buildup in the Gulf, saying they still intend to invade no matter what we do with the inspectors.

Rym Brahimi, CNN, Baghdad.

COSTELLO: And we'll talk about Washington's handling of the Iraq situation when we give a wake up call in our next hour to CNN Washington producer Elise Labott.

And be sure to get the latest on Iraq and the hunt for weapons of mass destruction on our Web site, cnn.com, AOL keyword: CNN.
