LEON HARRIS, CNN ANCHOR: We turn our attention now to the search for Laci Peterson, a 27-year-old pregnant woman who disappeared on Christmas Eve. As police search for suspects in this case, they're now facing a new challenge. They're also investigating a weekend break-in at the home Peterson shared with her husband.
For more on that, as well as for more on the search for Laci, let's go now to CNN's David Mattingly who checks in from Modesto, California this morning.

Hello, David.

DAVID MATTINGLY, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Hello, Leon.

Modesto Police are continuing to investigate what they call the bizarre break-in of the Peterson home, bizarre because nothing important seems to have been taken. And they firmly believe it has nothing to do with the disappearance of Laci Peterson. The break-in was first reported by Laci's husband, Scott, after he returned from a trip to Los Angeles. He was in that city with his family to help rally public support for the search for his wife. He was at the house yesterday, replacing a broken lock, but he had no comment about the break-in. This is just the latest twist in this baffling case.

Laci Peterson, the 27-year-old mother-to-be, missing now since Christmas Eve. Scott Peterson, according to police, has not been ruled in or out as a suspect, although there does appear to be a split among the family in-laws. Laci's family, through a spokesperson, called on Scott to tell all he knows last night after police showed them recent pictures of Scott with what they believe is a girlfriend.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: When I read the statement from the family on Friday, we did confirm that the Modesto Police Department has confirmed for the family, through pictures that Scott did have a girlfriend.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

MATTINGLY: What was actually in those photographs that make them so convincing has not been made public. So we don't know exactly what the family was looking at. But Scott Peterson has been public in saying that he was not having an affair. Meanwhile, the hunt for Laci Peterson goes on here in Modesto -- Leon.

HARRIS: All right, thanks, David. David Mattingly, reporting live for us from Modesto, California.
