LEON HARRIS, CNN ANCHOR: An ambush attack on Americans in Kuwait. One civilian, Michael Rene Pouliot of San Diego was killed, and another man was wounded today's shooting. Their vehicle was riddled with bullets as they traveled along a main road near a U.S. military base.
CNN's Charles Feldman joins us from San Diego, where Michael Rene Pouliot worked.

Hello, Charles.

CHARLES FELDMAN, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Hello, Leon.

As you could well imagine, it's a shock to this company, but it's so early here, it's only about 8:30 California time, that the employees who work at this company have yet to arrive. We were told, though, by a woman who is the property manager here that the only one inside now is a receptionist who found out about the death of Mr. Pouliot when she came into work only minutes ago. We're told that she is quite, and understandably, broken up by the whole thing and does not wish to talk to anybody, and we're going to honor that. And we are waiting to see when other employees come in, what they may have to say about this particular gentleman.

The woman that I just alluded to, Leon, who is the building manager, said that she knew him for about two years, and said that he was a very nice man, at least that was the experience she had with him. And so we're going to be checking with other people as some of the employees of this company come to work, to find out more about him.

What we know about the company is it deals, Leon, with software, graphical software, and one of the things that it does is it designs simulation software for the military, and presumably, that is what brought him to Kuwait.

So the pieces of this still falling together as the morning progresses, and we'll be here and report back to you as we learn more about the life of this particular individual, and what people thought of him, and why he was in Kuwait, and who he leaves behind here in San Diego -- Leon.

HARRIS: Thanks, Charles. Clearly, we are at the very beginning of this developing story. Charles Feldman , reporting live for us from San Diego.
