HEIDI COLLINS, CNN ANCHOR: To California now and the case of Laci Peterson. Her family says they're no longer supporting Laci's husband Scott and last night a woman admitted having an affair with Scott Peterson. But she said he claimed to be single.
For the very latest twists in the case, we go to David Mattingly in Modesto, California -- good morning, David.

DAVID MATTINGLY, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Good morning, Heidi.

After a week of virtual silence in this case, we suddenly have some very public and dramatic revelations about the infidelity of Laci's husband Scott. And it all started with some emotional pleas from Laci's family.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: This past month has been the most painful time I've ever experienced.

MATTINGLY (voice-over): A family struggling through a month's worth of painful emotions, speaking in front of the cameras directly to whoever took the 27-year-old mother to be Laci Peterson and pleading for her safe return.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Please, please, let her come home to us.

MATTINGLY: The most powerful moment belonging to Laci's older brother, who claimed that Laci's husband Scott admitted to having an affair and questioned what else he may be hiding.

BRENT ROCHA, LACI PETERSON'S BROTHER: Since Scott is no longer communicating with anyone in Laci's family and because we have so many questions that he has not answered, I am no longer supporting him.

MATTINGLY: Later, police reveal the girlfriend, 28-year-old Amber Frey, a single mother who claims that a romantic relationship started with Scott Peterson one month before Laci's disappearance. Not knowing, she said, that he was married, she called police and reported the affair after news of Laci broke.

AMBER FREY, ALLEGED GIRLFRIEND: I am very sorry for Laci's family and the pain that this has caused them. And I pray for her safe return, as well.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

MATTINGLY: A Peterson family spokesperson last night saying he's not sure when the Peterson family will respond to what they saw yesterday. The Modesto police here not saying a whole lot, either. Not giving any details about what progress, if any, they're making in this investigation -- Heidi.

COLLINS: David, any idea if the police will be talking to the Frey woman anymore, after she already came to them and admitted that she had known Scott Peterson in this way?

MATTINGLY: They have every bit of information they feel that they need to get from her. She's also available to them at any time. But they allowed her to go public last night because they felt it would not be having any impact on their continued investigation here.

COLLINS: All right, David Mattingly live from Modesto, California.

Thank you.
