CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: And speaking of Secretary of State Colin Powell, he is saying the United States will not shrink from war. In a "Wall Street Journal" commentary Powell writes, and I quote, "On Wednesday, I will present to the Security Council U.S. intelligence showing further evidence of Iraq's pattern of deception. While there will be no smoking gun, we will provide evidence concerning the weapons programs that Iraq is working so hard to hide."
OK, so Secretary Powell is getting ready for that high level meeting today. Let's make our wake up call now to CNN State Department producer Elise Labott to find out more about that and what Colin Powell said in this Wall Street commentary -- good morning, Elise.

ELISE LABOTT, CNN PRODUCER: Good morning, Carol.

Well, as you said, the Secretary said no smoking gun and the Secretary said, you know, while he does say that the U.S. wants to disarm Saddam Hussein peacefully, he certainly seems to be beating the war drums just a little bit louder. And even though there's nothing new in that editorial, those Council members are going to be looking for that evidence later this week. And as you said, today the king of Bahrain is in town. He'll be meeting with Secretary Powell and also this week with Secretary Bush. And as the continued -- administration continues to make its case, we're going to see a parade of visitors to Washington.

U.S. allies, which officials hope will be on board, we're hearing Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak might come in, Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon could be coming to town in the near future. So the Bush administration really reaching out on all fronts here -- Carol.

COSTELLO: All right, Elise Labott, thanks for waking up early with us. We wish we had more time to spend with her, but we do not, alas.
