CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: As we've been telling you, President Bush is heading to Texas today to join the memorial for Columbia's heroes.
Our Rusty Dornin is at the Johnson Space Center in Houston.

And, Rusty, this memorial will start at 1:00, and it probably will last some time.

RUSTY DORNIN, CNN CORRESPONDENT: That's right. You know, today is a day to pause and reflect as NASA officials put a day of remembering the lives of the seven astronauts. And of course, for folks here, it's really a day of mourning for people they really felt like were part of their family.

President Bush and first lady Laura will be coming here at 1:00 Eastern. They're going to be joining Sean O'Keefe, the NASA administrator, as well as family members of the astronauts.

Now, yesterday, former President Bush was here in Houston to pay his respects.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

GEORGE H.W. BUSH, FORMER PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES: We just came by to wish you well, and to tell you that having talked to our son as late as this morning, he expresses full confidence in the NASA program, and certainly his best wishes go to you.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

DORNIN: Now, according to AP, the daughter of Dick Scobee, one of the Challenger astronauts, will be coming here to talk to the children of -- the surviving children of the astronauts, which range in age from 3 to 22. There are 12 of them. Apparently, Commander Rick Husband's wife asked her to come after she had seen an open letter that Katherine Scobee Fulgham had written to the children of those who had perished during September 11.

Now, of course, thousands are expected to attend the outdoor memorial service, and of course, we will be carrying it here on CNN live -- Carol.

COSTELLO: Oh, we certainly will. Thanks very much, Rusty.
