LEON HARRIS, CNN ANCHOR: On this day that was supposed to be a day that the family of Laci Peterson was going to be welcoming a new member to this world. Instead, they find themselves still wondering where in the world Laci Peterson is. She disappeared on Christmas Eve.
We get the latest from CNN's Rusty Dornin, standing by live now in Modesto, California.

Hello, Rusty.

RUSTY DORNIN, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Well, Leon, as you said, this was a day, of course, looked upon with joyous anticipation. Laci Peterson and her family, she and her husband Scott had named the boy. He was to be named "Connor." She decorated a nursery here in her Modesto home. This day now arrives with a sense of dread, because there are no clues as to her whereabouts.

Now, over the weekend, there were hundreds of searchers that fanned out along the canal areas in the farmlands of California's Central Valley, looking for any clues, any sign as to what happened to Laci Peterson.

Apparently, volunteers did find a woman's dress, but it had no connection to the missing expectant mother.

Now, they also have put out alerts statewide to birthing clinics, hospitals and those sorts of places to be on the lookout for, of course, Laci, or any pregnant woman that might come in that might be in trouble.

Here at the Modesto Police Department, over 5,000 tips have come in, and yet, there are still no breakthroughs in this case.

And if you want to know how the community feels about this you can see, you know, Iraq and the shuttle have dominated the headlines lately, but today, once again, the headlines belong to Laci Peterson. This is a community very concerned about the whereabouts of this woman.

Now, tonight about 20 of her friends and family will gather to commemorate this will day with prayers and a candlelight vigil -- Leon.

HARRIS: Just heart breaking, to see a family who's supposed to be celebrating, looking for closure on a day like this.

Thanks, Rusty. Rusty Dornin, checking in live for us from Modesto, California.
