PAULA ZAHN, CNN ANCHOR: Let's move to the Persian Gulf, where U.S. forces are getting ready for the possibility of war.
Our own Bill Hemmer is joining American troops there in Kuwait near the Iraqi border at Camp Virginia.

Good morning -- Bill.

BILL HEMMER, CNN ANCHOR: Hello from Camp Virginia, Paula.

Six thousand strong right now, 6,000 members of the Army's 5th Corps. They're based in Germany. They have since moved here in bits and pieces going back to October about five months ago. And this is the first live television broadcast from this camp, a temporary facility, again, set up about five months ago.

We picked a heck of a day to come out here by the way. Take a look at some of the wind that is essentially whipping through this camp, taking that fine desert dust and blowing it just about everywhere. It gets in your eyes, it gets in your faces and it gets in the machinery and the hardware throughout this entire operation.

One thing that is essential out here, Paula -- this gentleman's got it -- a set of goggles right here.

How often does that help you out here?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Quite often. This protects our eyes from the sun and the wind and the dust, and we certainly need our eyes for the operations in the road ahead. So, I try to encourage all soldiers to wear these.

HEMMER: Can't work without it, can you?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Absolutely, (UNINTELLIGIBLE).

HEMMER: Some of the finest members of the 5th Corps behind us, Paula. We'll be in touch throughout the next three hours. Exclusive coverage here at Camp Virginia, lots to talk about and we will.

Back to you now in New York.

ZAHN: Look forward to it, Bill. Glad you got there safely.
