CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: And it is time now for our Dollars and Deals segment. With tax time right around the corner, many of you are doing your taxes at home and want to know the fastest, cheapest way to do it on your computer. Well, this morning our consumer guru, Clark Howard, has info you'll want to hear.
(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

CLARK HOWARD, CONSUMER ADVOCATE: Today's question is from Charlie in Bronxville, New York.

Charlie, you want to do your own tax return and you want to know how to choose the best software. Well, I'll tell you, tax preparation software is really a two horse race. There's Turbo Tax and Tax Cut. There are some smaller players out there, but those two dominate with extra cheap software.

One thing about it, whichever one you use, don't use it online. The online programs are inferior to the ones you buy in traditional software that you just load on your computer.

But the "Wall Street Journal" technology writer is really not happy at all this year with Turbo Tax and strongly recommends that you use Tax Cut. A simple reason, the Turbo Tax people were so worried about people who might pirate their software that they've made it hard for the legitimate buyer of it to use it to prepare their taxes. So this year in a close finish, you should chose Tax Cut.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

COSTELLO: Got it.

If you have a question for Clark, send your e-mail to daybreak@cnn.com. He'll get it answered for you. And you can visit Clark's Web site, one of the most popular on the Web, at www.clarkhoward.com.
