JACK CAFFERTY, CNN ANCHOR: Just in time for Valentine's Day, a new book to help women understand how superficial men can really be. "Cad" is a four-letter word to most women. Rick Marin says he's a better man for having spent seven years as one, and he's written a book on the subject, which is called "Cad: Confessions of a Toxic Bachelor." He's now engaged and reformed, and he's here now to come clean with us.
Nice to have you with us.

RICK MARIN, "CAD: CONFESSIONS OF A TOXIC BACHELOR": Nice to be here.

CAFFERTY: How do you define a cad?

MARIN: I think a cad is -- I say to women that a cad is anything you want him to be. He's that guy that women are always trying to figure out, because they have a great time with him, he's charming, he's fun, and then maybe a couple of days later, they don't hear from him.

CAFFERTY: He's a weasel, though, underneath it at all?

MARIN: No, he's a good guy underneath it all. He's looking for the right woman. He's a lover of women. He can't get enough of them, sometimes literally.

CAFFERTY: But is it fair to say he takes advantage of women?

MARIN: I don't think so. He's honest with them while he's with them.

CAFFERTY: Yes.

MARIN: But maybe he has a bit of a short attention span.

CAFFERTY: OK, you claim a cad is a better date than a normal guy. What's wrong with dating a normal guy?

MARIN: Well, I said the so-called nice guy.

CAFFERTY: Oh, OK.

MARIN: He may be safe and maybe you think he's good marriage material, but he's a little dull. The cad at least you know you're going to have fun with him, and he'll show you a good time. CAFFERTY: What's the worst thing you ever did to a woman you were dating where you went, oh, god, I shouldn’t' have done that? Or did you ever feel that way?

MARIN: Yes, I probably did, although the cad doesn't suffer from too much guilt.

CAFFERTY: Yes.

MARIN: He always thinks he has a good reason for doing the things he's doing. If you meet some woman who tells you that the CIA is trying to recruit her, and Jim Morrison comes to her in her dreams, you know, what do you do? You ask for her number.

CAFFERTY: Absolutely.

MARIN: Then you regret it later.

CAFFERTY: Have you ever been out-cadded by a woman? A woman ever pull this kind of stuff on you.

MARIN: Oh, yes.

CAFFERTY: And you're kind of standing at the corner going what is going on?

MARIN: Absolutely. Well, a lot of this book is, you know, it may not be able to get anything going at all and suffering through long dry spells. But ultimately, the woman who I end up with is the one who saw through my cad moves, and instead of being offended by them or falling for them was amused by them, and then I knew she right one for me.

CAFFERTY: What have you done to convince her that you've actually reformed and wont' revert to your old ways at some point?

MARIN: Well, I got it all out of my system by writing the book.

CAFFERTY: Yes, sure. All right, the book is interesting and it's fun. It's called "Cad: Confessions of a Toxic Bachelor." Rick Marin engaged to be married, and good luck to you on your upcoming nuptials.

MARIN: Thank you.

CAFFERTY: And thank you for sharing a couple of thoughts with us on why dating one of those weasel types actually may be more fun than the normal guy.
