CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: It has been a rough winter for travel. Isn't that the understatement of the year, and it's going to be a nasty day today.
RALLY CAPARAS, AIR TRAFFIC SPECIALIST, TRAVELOCITY.COM: Yes.

COSTELLO: Travelocity's air traffic expert Rally Caparas is here. OK.

CAPARAS: Thanks.

COSTELLO: I don't even want to hear it.

CAPARAS: Thanks for throwing me to the wolves today, Carol.

Folks, I'm sorry to have to tell you this, but it's going to be a very, very difficult day for travel airplane wise throughout the United States. Here's how it's going to work, so stick with me, plenty of activity today.

Philadelphia and the D.C. Metros, right now things are looking pretty good; however, they're not going to look good for long. A wintry mix is going to move in, Orleon Sidney's been showing you on the weather map, snow, ice, de-icing, 30 to 45-minute arrival delays are going to be the problems early. Then later on during the evening rush, expect 60 to 90-minute arrival and departure delays. It could be even worse than that, so keep your fingers crossed.

Atlanta Hartsfield, we're looking at 30 to 45-minute arrival delays a little bit later this morning. Low clouds, rain, poor airport surface visibility and that will last well into the evening hours.

Miami, down in Florida, they're even seeing 60-minute arrival delays this morning. They're socked in with fog. They can't move around down there very well, can't see down the runway so that's going to be with them until later on this morning Eastern Time, then they'll get relief.

Memphis and Nashville airports, you're going to get nailed with a lot of sleet, a lot of ice, a lot of snow. It's going to be a difficult transition into and out of those airports. I'm not sure how many people are going to make it there today.

Dallas-Fort Worth, the night before last they had a sheet of ice dropped over the Metroplex there. The day went through yesterday, very little ice. Well, they cancelled over 200 flights into and out of that airport yesterday. Already, and what is it 6:16 a.m. Eastern Time, they've already cancelled nearly 200 flights this morning. So if you're on an American Airlines' flight, major hub airlines there, check and see if you can move your flight to tomorrow. They'll give it to you for free right now. Get on the phones, get on the Internet. That's the best way to do it. Check in on the airline's Internet sites.

Houston's George Bush, 30 to 45-minute arrival delays. Low clouds and some fog early, getting better later on.

And then Phoenix Sky Harbor, comparatively short-term delays, 30- minute arrival delays, low clouds and rain.

COSTELLO: Yes.

CAPARAS: I'm sure I'll be back throughout the day now. My day will get extended because of this.

COSTELLO: Yes you will, because I'm sure CNN will ask you.

CAPARAS: Yes.

COSTELLO: Rally Caparas, many thanks to you.

CAPARAS: See you soon.
