ANDERSON COOPER, CNN ANCHOR: You are looking at a live picture right now from a preliminary hearing of Robert Blake in the murder case. Robert Blake accused of having conspired and murdering his wife.
On the stand right now, Sergeant Charles Knowles (ph) playing a tape alleged to be a conversation between Robert Blake and his deceased wife. Let's listen in.

(JOINED IN PROGRESS)

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: ... (UNINTELLIGIBLE) your mother?

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Temporarily, yes.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Why? What would that do?

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Because you -- you don't want it around you at all, so...

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I would rather you didn't have it. It would just really help both of us a lot. Make it easier for you to go back and forth, easier for you to move out here, easier for you to do everything.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: So what you're saying is if I keep it, you don't want to be around me, then?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: It's just going to make it all so much more difficult, so much more difficult all the way down the line.

If you want to cancel your flight and stay here, I would take you to a clinic.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: I can't do that. You don't understand.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Not even for me and for us, and for your life and your future, and all that stuff?

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: The only thing I ever wanted to do was just be with you.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I beg your pardon?

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: I just wanted to be with you, you know? Why can't you let me be with you, and I'll make my mother or somebody watch it? UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I want you to be with me.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: I won't bring it around you, I promise.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: That's going to be so awkward, honey.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: No, it won't. I know what you're going through, and I wouldn't want a kid around either if I was going through all that.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: You know, if you're going to do it, you have to do it really soon.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: I don't want to do it.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I know you don't want to, but it would just make life so much easier for both of us, forever, for the rest of our lives.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: How? I've told you, I just won't bring it around you. If you want, I'll leave it at Vincent's (ph) with my mother.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: What, move out here and leave the baby there?

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Yes, if you don't want me to have it around you, I would.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: No, you just have to go ahead and do whatever you're going to do. Anyway...

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: But then that means you don't want to be with me at all.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: We just have to see what happens. I can't make that kind of prediction.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: So you don't want me to move out, then?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I don't know what I want. I've got to get through this surgery. I told you the things that I want. I've got to get through the surgery, and have you terminate the pregnancy, but I'll take whatever I can get in this world. I'm not God. You have to do whatever you have to do for whatever reasons.

All of those crazy letters you wrote me, you already knew you were pregnant and all that stuff. You are who you are, you do what you do, and that's who you are. If -- if that's the way you can live, and you can live with yourself doing stuff like that, and it doesn't come down on you, then that's who you are.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: All I wanted was to be with you. I didn't know there was anything wrong.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Didn't know there was anything wrong?

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: No, I didn't know that you had problems like this.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Deliberately getting pregnant is wrong. Writing letters to me about that you're going to get an abortion -- you promised me. You said, I'll take pills, I'll get an abortion; all I want to do is be with you no matter what happens; you don't have to worry, if I ever get pregnant, I promise you, I swear it on my life I'll get an abortion.

I remember everything. I remember everything. I remember everything.

Just, if that's who you are, that's who you are. If you can live with that, that's the way you live. That's the way you live. (UNINTELLIGIBLE) you care about somebody desperately and deeply and then you lie to them all over the place, and come out here again, and knowing that you were pregnant and didn't tell me.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Well, I figured you may not ever want to see me again, so I figured...

(CROSSTALK)

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: ... I just wanted to be with you again. That's all.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: But you know you're going to get -- eventually I'm going to know, and then all those lies about no matter what, you don't have to worry, Robert, I promise you I'll have an abortion. All that stuff. You swore. My God, what kind of (UNINTELLIGIBLE) all that? How can you do that? (UNINTELLIGIBLE) do that?

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Why can't I just get an apartment here and bring somebody with me to watch it, and see you sometimes like I do now?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: How can you lie to me like that?

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: I figured as long as -- I don't know what I was thinking. I just wanted you. That's all. Don't do this.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I'm not doing anything, sweetheart. It's all OK. You go ahead, go to Florida...

COOPER: OK. You've been listening to part of a preliminary hearing, Robert Blake charged with the murder of his wife, Bonny Lee Bakley. That was a taped phone conversation between Blake and his -- the mother of his child, a discussion about whether or not she would move out to Los Angeles. Robert Blake saying to his -- to Ms. Bakley that she had promised not to have the child, and that she had gone ahead and done that nevertheless.
