Aired February 27, 2003 - 12:51   ET

THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.

WOLF BLITZER, CNN ANCHOR: I want to go back to that story we reported on just a little while ago from Dallas, Texas where three sisters are now missing. An Amber alert has been issued in that huge state.
Our Ed Lavandera is standing by with an update -- Ed.

ED LAVANDERA, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Hi, Wolf. Well, Dallas police are working a story which started breaking about 7:00 this morning, Central Time when five children were approached by, police say, two unidentified Latino males in a -- driving a white 1999 GMC Yukon with the license plate of D as in David, 82MXG.

Police are continuing to look for that car. They have, actually, found that car in a park where near where these children were abducted. There were originally five children. Two of the boys were able to get away we understand, but when police have found that car just a few short miles away from where the abduction happened this morning, police say that the suspects nor the children were found in the area.

So police have issued the Amber alert here, which has gone across the state of Texas, and what usually happens is the signals go out over the radio systems and are put up on street signs across the -- in the freeways across the Dallas-Fort Worth area as well, so the word starting to spread quickly through this region.

The three girls that are missing are of ages 10, 7, and 11. The girls are named Valerie Gomez (ph), Cecilia Gomez (ph), and Vivian Ortiz (ph).

Now, authorities also say that they're not sure what kind of relationship these two men, if any, might have to these children as well. That's one of the things they're looking into at this point. But of course, what happens in many of these cases is the initial search, just trying to find these children, and that's what police are focusing on at these moments -- Wolf.

BLITZER: Is there any -- any sense at all, any indication that this is a family dispute between two parents or other relatives who might not be at ease with each other?

LAVANDERA: We asked that of a police spokesperson just a short time ago, and they haven't been able -- wouldn't say, at this point, what exactly the types of things that they're looking into. We can probably presume that might be one of the things they're looking into at this point, but no official word yet from the police department here in Dallas.

BLITZER: All right. We'll continue to watch this story. Thanks, Ed Lavandera in Dallas, Texas for us.
