CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: We do have word that Britain is working on a compromise amendment to attach to that U.S.-backed U.N. resolution, and it could set a deadline for Saddam.
We take you live to London, where the draft is being worked on, and Matthew Chance.

Good morning.

MATTHEW CHANCE, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Thank you, Carol.

And I just want to make the point, first of all, that at this stage, government officials are telling us here in Britain that there are no compromise proposals that have actually been laid down. They're making the point very clearly that there is still only one draft resolution on the table, and that's the resolution, they say, they're trying to get supported at the Security Council.

Having said that, there are these rumors swirling around the British media of those compromise proposals that you referred to, proposals that could give Iraq a little more time to come into compliance with the last U.N. Security Council Resolution 1441, but a resolution, a compromise that would also set a deadline for Iraq to come into compliance and threaten military intervention if it does not.

So, it is something that could bring on board (UNINTELLIGIBLE) at the Security Council -- Carol.

COSTELLO: Matthew Chance reporting live from London this morning.
