HEIDI COLLINS, CNN ANCHOR: Need a vacation but don't have a lot to spend? No sweat. This morning in
Dollars and Deals, our consumer guru Clark Howard shows you where to find all the cheap getaways.

CLARK HOWARD, CONSUMER ADVOCATE: Today's question comes from Robie in Roswell, New Mexico. You want to know what are some great places to go on vacation for cheap. Give me some great deals and I'm gone.

OK, Robie, number one, you've got the drill down right. What you do is you find a deal in the world of travel and then you figure out why you want to go there. The big mistake people do in a deregulated environment is they decide where they want to go when and then look for the price.

No. If you turn this around and you buy the bargains, you'll do great. Here's an example. You want to go to fun in the sun places like the Caribbean? Check out Apple Vacations. At their Web site, they show you sizzling specials, places that have not sold for specific dates where you can get a real deal. Cruise lines do this, as well. You can find fantastic deals, depending on where the ship goes from, what the itinerary is, the dates and all of that. You can find great bargains.

Europe, unbelievable deals published every week on either Tuesday or Wednesday at airline Web sites. And United Airlines, because they're in bankruptcy, they have the most fantastic deals internationally every week at ual.com. Check 'em out.
