LOU DOBBS, CNN ANCHOR: The remarkable story of the recovery of Elizabeth Smart. She's now in police custody after being missing since last June 5. When Elizabeth Smart's uncle heard she'd been found alive, he said miracles do exist.
That uncle, Tom Smart, joins us now from salt lake city. Tom, good to talk with you.

TOM SMART, ELIZABETH SMART'S UNCLE: Thank you.

DOBBS: And I can only imagine your happiness and that of the entire family, as news reached you that Elizabeth was safe.

SMART: I think that it's affected all of us that way, yes. Even more than just our family. I think the whole world's been praying for a miracle, and we got it today.

DOBBS: Absolutely. And -- the -- what -- have you got any sense of what led to her discovery today and the identification of Brian Mitchell, with whom she was apparently found in the company?

SMART: I don't know that that's the facts, and I just know that she was with -- from what I heard, was with two other so-called cult type girls, and she had a black hair wig on, and Edward was called out to go identify and -- I don't know the details on that. The Salt Lake Police knows the details on that.

DOBBS: And how did you....

SMART: I just know that she's alive and that my brother's held her in his arms.

DOBBS: That is wonderful, wonderful news.

How did you learn that she was safe?

SMART: Well, we -- my brother called me and told me.

DOBBS: And have the authorities told her that -- told him that she's in good condition and...

SMART: Edward told me she's well.

DOBBS: Excellent.

SMART: Yes. DOBBS: Excellent. And how soon will you be able to see her?

SMART: You know, it's not important that I see her right away. I'm sure Edward and Lois and their family are with her. Hopefully, they're probably spend some time alone for a few days or however, and our -- the rest of our family are going to gather tonight and rejoice.

DOBBS: Absolutely. Well, we rejoice with you. We thank you for taking time to talk with us.

Tom Smart, the uncle of Elizabeth Smart, found today in Sandy, Utah, a suburb just outside -- south of Salt Lake City. Found well. Now in police custody, and apparently rejoined with her parents, as Tom Smart just indicated. And we know that there is a scheduled press conference to discuss the case and what is a happy ending in the Elizabeth Smart disappearance from her home last June 5.

Coming up at 7:00 tonight Eastern time, live here on CNN. And we will continue to update the story as it unfolds throughout the evening, of course, here on CNN.
