PAULA ZAHN, CNN ANCHOR: We're hearing more now about what might be an ongoing part of the military campaign from Art Harris, who joins us along the Iraqi-Kuwaiti border.
Art, what are you seeing right now? Go ahead, Art.

ART HARRIS, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Where? You can hear me?

ZAHN: We can hear you, Art -- go ahead.

ART HARRIS, CNN CORRESPONDENT: All right, I'm right at the -- close to the Iraqi/Kuwaiti border, where I've seen and counted what appear to be eight missiles fired directly over our position in the last 10 minutes. We have our gas masks on, on and now we're in chemical, biological vehicles for the 2nd Marines have just sounded an alarm of possible gas in the area. Everyone has their masks on, preparing to either move or wait and see what happens.

The missiles appeared to come overhead. There were streaks of light like giant Roman candles, and they kept going. I just heard an explosion in the distance where one apparently landed, and no confirmation of, but they were all coming from the Iraqi side of the border.

I am with the 2nd Marine Division out of Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, light armored reconnaissance unit, and they are very close to the border, and their job is to scout intelligence, and I'm speaking from inside my gas mask right now, and watching and waiting for what orders come in.

ZAHN: Art, exactly how -- are you able or allowed to tell us how far you are from the Iraqi border?

HARRIS: Well, I can only tell that you we're very close. And these missiles were -- I was standing outside, here comes -- yes. I was talking to the first sergeant...

(AUDIO PROBLEMS)

ZAHN: All right, I believe we just lost our signal with Art Harris, who is with 3rd battalion 2nd Marines, very close to the Iraqi border, describing what he said as eight missiles fired over his position from Iraq into Kuwait. He said that he and the men and women he's joining in the field all donned their protective gear. He had a gas mask on at the time he was reporting to us. He described seeing streaks of light, an alarm was sounded.
