PAULA ZAHN, CNN ANCHOR: Welcome back on this Friday morning. Time to get a "Recap" of the latest developments on the war. Here is Carol Costello.
(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: 11:33 p.m. Eastern time, 8:33 a.m. in Iraq, CNN's Karl Penhaul, embedded with the 82nd Airborne, reports that U.S. forces have secured two major Euphrates River crossings in central Iraq.

1:17 a.m., CNN's Brent Sadler reports from northern Iraq that Kurdish leaders there applaud coalition advances further south, and they say the Saddam Hussein regime could soon collapse if more pressure is put on his troops in the northern cities of Kirkuk and Mosul.

1:38 a.m., CNN's Walter Rodgers, embedded with 3rd Squadron, 7th Cavalry, reports from near Saddam International Airport that the 3-7th has been under fire for hours as U.S. troops battle for control of the airport.

3:30 a.m., Walter Rodgers and his crew send back live pictures of a dramatic rescue. An Iraqi soldier who had been lying injured in a ditch was spotted by the CNN crew, and given first aid by a U.S. Army medic.

4:30 a.m., on Iraqi TV, the Iraqi information minister reads a statement he says is from Saddam Hussein. It promises Iraq will defeat coalition forces at the gates of Baghdad.

6:24 a.m., U.S. Central Command says a car bomb at a checkpoint southwest of Iraq's Hadithah Dam killed three coalition troops. The car's driver and a pregnant woman passenger also killed.
