CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: We have breaking news out of Baghdad. Let's go to Kuwait City and Daryn for more on that.
DARYN KAGAN, CNN ANCHOR: Yes, Carol, this would follow up on that phone interview you just had with the member of the International Red Cross that things are not as calm and celebratory in Baghdad as we might think.

Let's bring in right now Scott Nelson. He is a reporter with "The Boston Globe," and he's with the -- he's in the southeastern part of the city.

Scott, what can you tell us about conditions where you are right now?

SCOTT NELSON, "THE BOSTON GLOBE": It's -- the emotions here are very mixed today. On the one hand, it appears to me that every area where the Americans are in control there is widespread looting. And there is almost a euphoric atmosphere among the residents here that we survived the war, it's over and in many cases, they're looting everything they can.

But the other side of this is there is still some fighting going on. I'm living with the 2nd Battalion, 11th Marine regiment, have been for the past six weeks, and last night the regiment was part of an action into the Saddam City area that reportedly led to the death of 23 Marines. So the war is not entirely over.

It's largely over and it feels like it's largely over. There are people by the thousands streaming back toward Baghdad, returning to their homes, but there is still some isolated fighting going on and people are still gunning here.

KAGAN: Scott Nelson with "The Boston Globe," thank you for that update.

We should get more out of that when the CENTCOM briefing begins in just about 10 minutes.
