CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: Let's talk about casualties now. We have updates for you.
The total number of coalition troops who have been killed in Operation Iraqi Freedom has now risen to 154. That's according to the latest figures from U.S. and British authorities. Two more Americans have been killed, bringing the total number of U.S. war deaths to 123, 105 of them were killed in combat, 18 in non-combat situations, 495 American troops have been wounded and 4 are listed as missing in action.

A total of 31 British troops are listed as killed in action, 9 of them in combat, 20 in non-combat situations and the cause of 2 British troop deaths are still listed as undetermined.

Unfortunately, no reliable figures for the number of Iraqi civilians killed and wounded in the war. Before the collapse of Saddam Hussein's regime, Abu Dhabi TV put the number of civilian deaths at 1,252 based on figures from Iraqi officials. The U.S. has reported thousands of Iraqi military deaths and more than 7,300 Iraqi POWs.

Well the military operations in Iraq have been tapering off and humanitarian efforts are being stepped up.

Our Miles O'Brien has a summary of the day's activities.

MILES O'BRIEN, CNN CORRESPONDENT (voice-over): Bush says just a month ago, Iraq was a prison to its people. Now he says Iraqi people are regaining control. He told a Rose Garden audience that a free Iraq should be an example to all in the Middle East.

11:49 a.m., Secretary of State Colin Powell says while coalition forces still are battling remnants of Iraqi forces, most attention now is being focused on humanitarian aid. Powell says security is being restored to hospitals and repair of public buildings will soon be under way.

12:47 p.m., CNN's Ryan Chilcote reports U.S. Army experts have determined the buried lab U.S. troops found last week in Karbala are not the mobile chemical and biological weapons facilities the military had suspected.

1:39 p.m., Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld says U.S. military engineers have shut down a pipeline used for illegal oil shipments from Iraq to Syria in violation of U.N. sanctions.

2:46 p.m., 39 more U.S. military casualties arrive at the United States Rota field hospital in southwest Spain, boosting to 273 the number of U.S. troops treated there since the war began.

5:38 p.m., an Iraqi youngster who lost both arms and was badly burned in a coalition airstrike will now be treated in a Kuwait hospital. Thousands of people have offered assistance since the story of 12-year-old Ali Abbas was first broadcast last week.

COSTELLO: Miles O'Brien, many thanks.
