DARYN KAGAN, CNN ANCHOR: Police have questioned Laci Peterson's husband, Scott. He, though, has never been named as a suspect. Brian Anderson is a police reporter for the "Contra Costa Times." He has been covering this case, and he's with us now from San Francisco.
Brian, good morning. Thanks for being with us.

BRIAN ANDERSON, "CONTRA COSTA TIMES": Good morning, Daryn.

KAGAN: When you talk to your sources, did they tell you in their gut they believe these are the bodies of Laci Peterson and her child?

ANDERSON: What they're telling us right now is they are investigating that angle. They're still saying that it's far too early to tell, but there are a number of coincidences that they are following and are pursuing, the Peterson angle.

KAGAN: Let's talk about some of those coincidences. Number one, that the size of the body of the woman who was found versus the size of Laci Peterson.

ANDERSON: Well, we reported that today that a source told us skeletal remain as peer that they're about 5'3" tall, and Laci Peterson was approximately 5'1" tall.

KAGAN: So how will they go about making this link? Is it simply through DNA testing?

ANDERSON: Well, that will be a significant portion of it. I'm not an expert in that area. But there are a number of factors that they look for, specifically the DNA comparison between the bodies that were found to the -- some samples that were taken from the Peterson home in Modesto.

KAGAN: And what about the condition of these bodies. especially the woman's body. It's possible a body that's been in the water for a long time could have broken apart. So it's not necessarily the condition that is coming out of the water is the condition that went in.

ANDERSON: That's Absolutely correct. The length of time the bodies have been in the water has yet to be determined. But our sources are saying it's apparent that they have been in there for quite some time, and the state of decomposition is certainly advanced.

KAGAN: And just real quickly, any word from Scott Peterson? ANDERSON: We have not heard anything from Scott Peterson. His lawyer made a statement the other day, indicating that he knew about the discoveries, and that he was concerned that it would turn out to be his wife.

KAGAN: Brian Anderson, with the "Contra Costa Times," thanks for the update.

ANDERSON: Thanks, Daryn.

KAGAN: Appreciate your help.
