LEON HARRIS, CNN ANCHOR: Nearly four months to the day after Scott Peterson reported his pregnant wife missing, he is due to appear in court on charges of killing her and their unborn child. A memorial of sorts is building in the front yard of the home that Scott and Laci Peterson shared once. People there leaving flowers, candles and Easter bunnies. Some are bringing toys for the unborn child.
CNN's Mike Brooks is following this case and where it goes from here.

Good morning, Mike.

MIKE BROOKS, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Good morning, Leon.

As we know, Scott Peterson was arrested last Friday in San Diego, just outside the Tory Pines Golf Course. He now sits in the Stanislaus County jail here in Modesto, awaiting his arraignment at about 1:30 this afternoon.

Some people have been asking, has he been getting any preferential treatment? Well, he is right now in a 6 foot by 9 foot cell here at the jail. He's under maximum security here with six other inmates, and they all share one TV.

We spoke a while ago withstand Stanislaus County sheriff's department spokesperson Kelly Houston, who talked a little bit about the conditions he is spending his jail visit in right now.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

KELLY HUSTON, STANISLAUS CO. CALIF. SHERIFF'S DEPT.: Scott here in our maximum security custody facility is going to be treated just like any other inmate we have, and we're going to try to use extra security precautions to make sure he's able to be arraigned today or this afternoon, as quickly as possible. And then, of course, the judge in court will make a determination as to what his future will be.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

BROOKS: Now later on this afternoon he will appear in the superior court here in Stanislaus County for his arraignment on the two murder charges for the alleged murder of his wife, Laci, and their unborn child, Connor. Earlier today, we heard from the Peterson family who were very, very, very -- talking about the Modesto Police, and said that they thought that they weren't -- he wasn't receiving any -- that they were bungling the case. And later on today, we'll hear from Laci's family. They'll have a press conference later on today at 4:00 Pacific, 7:00 Eastern, and we'll carry that live here on CNN -- Leon.

HARRIS: All right, good deal. Thanks, Mike. Appreciate that. Mike Brooks, reporting live for us this morning from Modesto, California.
