DARYN KAGAN, CNN ANCHOR: Your mother might have told you that beauty is skin deep, but leave it to a dermatologist to tell you that skin is where your beauty begins. "The Murad Method" showcases the proper care and, yes, feeding of your skin. And the owner manual of sorts and its writer is here with us, Dr. Howard Murad, the author, joining us from New York -- Dr. Murad, good to have you with us.
DR. HOWARD MURAD, AUTHOR, "THE MURAD METHOD": Good to be here. It is a pleasure.

KAGAN: It is a little kick in the pants, as I was reading some of this, come spring and summer it is time for kind of a like an oil checkup if you had a car, to kind of look again at your skin care regimen.

MURAD: You absolutely need to. During the winter, your skin dries up, it looks lifeless and so on. My theory on this is the water principle.

KAGAN: Yes, let's talk about this water. Because people are like, drink, drink, drink, drink water. And for you, it's not just about the eight glasses a day, is it?

MURAD: Not at all, Karen (ph). The myth of all time is drinking eight glasses of water a day, and do you know what happens to you when you have eight glasses of water a day?

KAGAN: Oh, I do. I do. Yes. It's not sitting still, let me tell you that.

MURAD: The truth is how you utilize water. Did you know that there are over 300 different theories on aging and every single one results in a dasterous (ph) result, which is a lack of water in your tissue. If we could increase the water content in your tissue, we could increase the cells' activity, and reduce the aging process. I was able to prove with independent research that you could reduce wrinkles by 34 percent, increase the elasticity of your skin by 18 percent...

KAGAN: How?

MURAD: ... in just five weeks by using appropriate supplementation, using the appropriate products that are going to maintain the water within the tissue.

KAGAN: Are we talking about expensive stuff you have to buy, Dr. Murad? MURAD: Not at all. These are things that are available anywhere. Utilizing appropriate supplements in the right formulation. Before I went to medical school, I was a pharmacist, and the "RX," recipe, stands for recipe. The recipe includes amino acids, which are the building blocks for collagen and elastin, the essential fatty acids that add moisture right into the cells, things that glucosamine, that increase the water content...

KAGAN: Dr. Murad, I'm just going to jump in here for a second because our time is so limited, and I know that you know what those things are, but are these specific foods or specific products that our viewers -- they can buy, so we can get right to it.

MURAD: They -- you can find them in specific foods, but ideally you can get them in the supplement form. You can find them in fish oils. You can find them in flax seed oil. You can find them in all kinds of vitamins and nutrients, green vegetables. But the truth is, if you take a supplement, you are going to have all of the nutrients in one place that you could take on a regular basis.

KAGAN: Well, that's very good information. Dr. Murad, thank you. I could use a little skin care after over a month in the desert in Kuwait.

LEON HARRIS, CNN ANCHOR: You look great.

KAGAN: Talk about aging. Thank you.

MURAD: Thank you for having me.
